Does Jack make it his "thing" to like all the poo trucks?

Let's see- Hampson, Hunt, Houli, Grigg and now Astbury.

The club would be in a better position next year without all of the above gone and replaced with kids.

Should be the other way around...and at any club with half a clue it would be.....

Was probably only going to be one or two years for Dave until they heard Hurley had re-signed....classic Dan Richardson..... :clapping

Especially Astbury
Will only get injured

We ain't got any tall backman and they don't grow on trees
What trade Astbury and play Elton lol
Had to keep him
Has played good footy this year

Yes, that appears to be his "schtick"....though some might call it something else if it was permitted to do so....  :shh :whistle

Who else are we gonna play in the backline? The cupboard is a little bare there for key position defenders unless Griff moves back. I'd love to recruit the next corey Enright with pick 6 but any new defender will take 3 years to be any good.

Hey if you genuinely think it's smart list management to give an chronically injury-prone player a three-year extension, then bully for you.....

Astbury had a good year deserves the 3 years imo

Even reading this a few times I'm still unsure if you are being serious??
Even if he has had a good year, which IMO he hasn't, he has been just a pass at best.
Why would you give 3 years for 1 half decent one?? Makes no sense??

I get that we are light on in the tall backman department

I'll admit I'm not and Astbury fan. Too slow in so many areas its not funny; one of the best momentum killers in the game

I also understand him getting an extension

But 3 years? Please! IMESHO it should have been 1 year only. 3 years is laughable

Well...all I can say is

Terrific, just terrificTM

I just think the cupboard is so bare that we will have to play him for 3 years or there abouts despite his failings.  Unless we go out and find another Chapman type pickup because its unlikely we will find a Hurley but we may find a Gibson if we're lucky.  What is most likely is our next KPP Backman will be recruited, hopefully we will find the next Harry Taylor at pick 6 in the draft this year.  But that player will take 3 years to get to 50 games assuming he gets to play.

If you project out 3 years then Markov could quite possibly be a core defender, Rance will be getting old, if we're lucky he plays past 30.  Again if we're lucky and Grimes holds together then we might have a really good defense but it might also be the same some greats and a whole bunch of average.  Vlastuin will either be a very experienced backman or a mid fielder.  Batchelor will probably be gone, Houli retired, Yarran, who knows? McIntosh may have played 70 games by then, some kid like Menadue or C Ellis might be our main distributor of the ball.

It's not inconceivable we will still be playing Astbury in 3 years.

"Ooh quick better give him three years because we've got no KPD depth!" ....and yet Essendon & Footscray can go out and find Hartley & Adams in the State Leagues last year. It's poorly thought out, uninspired, visionless list management with just a hint of panic. A one-year deal would have sufficed.
