Very good one-on-one defender but his kicking technique is unusual. Finds targets when he has time and space but question mark on kicking when rushed or if it's windy.

Ryan Garthwaite

Player bio
Former club:   Murray Bushrangers
Age:   -
Height:   192cm
Weight:   84kg
Position:   Defender

A backman, Garthwaite can play on tall or small forwards. He does well in one-on-one contests because he has all the necessary attributes to beat his man, and he excels when the ball is in the air. However, he needs to put on a bit of size if he is to make it as an AFL defender. He finished in the top 10 for the clean hands and goalkicking tests at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

I know this kid and his family quite well.

A very down to earth, shy, hardworking kid who will do what it takes to get there. Awkward kicking action that will find its mark but I reckon it lacks penetration. A good reader of the play. Glad we got him.

poor kid.

those with a strange kicking action can get an undeserved rep as a bad kick, because it sticks out more.
