I'd just ask we have a vote like the 3 strikes thread which you can still view as a sticky for context. Then leave it up once it's been voted on and let people decide once and for all. If it's been debated several times, then it's obviously one of those things that has some profile so why not sticky a discussion thread and vote?
I am not sure why you think that it is up to posters to decide if the site is to sponsor players
There will be no vote as we (the mods, the people who run and fund the site) have decided previously (after numerous discussions and feedback) not to do it.
I get that people don't like it but ultimately it is the site owners who have the final say as we are the ones who deal with all the outside stuff you good folk don't have to worry about. Think that gives us a final say on a number of things and this is one of them
So I don't think we are being unreasonable in deciding it's not something this site will do. It has always been our view is and has been every time it's been bought up that we will not go down that path. We have not changed on our mind on it. that other sites do it is not relevant to OER. We have said from day 1 we don't care what other sites do.
Simply it is not something we have the time, the resources to do. Throw in what else it involves regarding dealing with people's money and other private stuff (eg bank accounts) then it is huge job, one as I said we are not going to undertake
People have ridiculed YBB for their comments (view / opinion) but it was more succinctly put than anything I had time to post.
I will say explain this just once.
I asked 4 questions of which one was singled out and no one bothered to answer any of the others.
Re the one singled out: the cost and the possible shortfall. It costs $1500 to sponsor a player @ $50 each it requires 30 people. I asked simply question what happens if there is $50-$100 shortfall, who's going to cover it? it wasn't an excuse it was a question. These are the things that need to be considered and sorted out in this sort of thing...
the logistics involved in pulling this all together isn't as simple as people seem to think.
I will repeat again
If people from here want to band together to sponsor a player then by all means go ahead
But it will not fall under the banner of OER as the site position is simple: we have chosen that we don't and won't be sponsoring players
