Jonty and Max would've been happy. The Beach or Condemned Park. Hard choice lol.

Did you see any of the players WP or was it just the trainers collecting up all the gear?

Saw players getting into thier cars so I thought it's over... we're outta here ;D

Training today was at Gosch's Paddock. I got there about 3pm and they were already into a drill. It finished up around 4.30pm.

The only absentees were Simmo and Thursty.  In the rehab group were Schulz, Richo, JON and Petersen. Kingsley, Hyde and Cogs joined the main squad for the drill they were doing when I arrived but then left once the scratch match started. Knobel had his ankle looked at and restrapped. He then rejoined training. Clever had some stretching treatment on his thigh/hip/groin region at the end.

The first drill was a combined rebound from defence / enter forward 50 one. The sqaud was split into 4 with a group at either end of the oval and then two groups on the wing. Each group at the ends would lead, mark the incoming pass then run and kick long to the other where the process was repeated. The players on the wing would start from a mark situation in the centre of the ground with a coach on the mark and pass to the leading player. There were a couple of stray kicks but overall mostly done well.

Next up was a scratch match between Yellow and White shirts. They played two quarters and then what looked like a golden goal as each side had kicked 5 goals each. After the second quarter the teams huddled then lined-up again. When Tambo slotted a goal they ended the game.

A pretty scrappy affair to be honest with a number of turnovers under pressure. The pressure and intensity as Wallace mentioned in his interview was good. Tackles stuck and there were a number of smothers. It seems a number of the guys tried to do too much . They were a bit too unselfish trying for that extra handball or delaying their possession when a first option would have been the best.

Anyway there were a few postives.
Polo was very good again in the clearances.

Krak was lively and in one of his on-song days. Got plenty of the pill and used it well.

Jacko was probably the best forward on the day although he failed to make the most of his scoring chances kicking 2.3.

McGuane chipped in again with a couple of early goals playing at FF.

Casserly's passing over Hb was very good.

I thought it was Clingan's best effort so far this year. Got a reasonable amount of the footy.

The usual standouts - Lids, Foley, White, Paddy and Sugar had good solid games.

Scores:

Whites:   3.3    5.6    6.6
Yellows:  2.3    5.5    6.5

Scorers:

Whites:
Goals:    Jacko 2, McGaune 2, Lids, Tambo
Behinds:  Jacko 3, Knobel, Meyer, rushed.

Yellows:
Goals:  Hartigan (intercept gift from your boy Moi lol), Krak, Browny, Graham, Paddy.
Behinds: Browny 2, Foley 2, rushed.

Some Match-ups:

Yellow B:    Hughes         King
White F:    McGuane      Jacko

Yellow HB:   Casserly     Connors
White HF:      Collins       Edwards

Yellow mid:   Joel         Tuck            Foley          Polo         Paddy     Hall/Clingan           Clingan/Krak
White mid:   Howat     Sugar           White          Lids         Tivs           Meyer                      Tambo

Yellow HF:   Patto/Graham            Harts/Krak     Harts
White HB:     Polak                          Rainesy         Newy

Yellow F:     Riewoldt              Browny
White B:       Gas                     Moore/Newy

After the scratch match they finished up with another drill. The squad was split into about 4 groups of guernseys vs red singlets. One of the groups would act as forwards containing Krak vs Rainesy, Browny vs Moore and Patto (I've forgotten for the moment who was his minder). The other groups would take turns initially maintaining possession via handball within a square at the far end of the oval until the whistle blew and they would then breakout and rebound to the waiting forwards. The skills level in this drill was a marked improvement on the scratch match. In fact it was excellent. Krak had the ball on the string with his leading. Lids and Sugar received praise for their defensive blocks and smothers.

And that was it. About half the squad left while Krak, Tambo, King, Mcguane, Tivs, Howat and a few others practiced their goalkicking. Graham and White worked on ruck-taps to a rover with Royal.

Photos to come later tonight.

Just got back from training at a sunny Vic Park. A good day to be relaxing in the sun watching some footy. Training was meant to start at 10am but Terry and the coaches had the squad in a conference for ages going through presumably set-ups for the drills and team structure. I got there at about 10.30 and they didn't start training until 11. Today they did heaps of work on their set-ups around stoppages(ball-ups and throw-ins).

The rehab group contained JON, Petersen, Casserly, Razor, Richo, Schulz, Kingsley and Cogs. Hyde did just over about half the session with the main squad then joined rehab. I don't recall Thursty being there and Simmo popped down to watch for a little while.

For the first drill, the squad split up into groups of six spread around the ground. Each ground practiced ball-up and throw-in structures with the senior player within each group as instructor and the tallest bloke the ruckman tapping to the smalls. The closest two groups near us were Joel's and Gas' with Graham and Clever doing the tapwork respectively. With Joel's group they worked on defensive aspects.

The second drill was a foot passing one from one end of the ground to a short option in the middle who in turn passed it to someone at the opposite end and then repeated. The drill wasn't done at any frenetic pace but it was clean done by everybody with only one noticable errant kick from what I saw.

Next up was more work around stoppages with the squad split into 4 groups of yellows vs whites with two on each wing and the others 20-30m out from goal at either end.  Not only did they work on ruck taps to rovers from ball-ups and throw-ins but also encouraged a third man to come in and punch the ball into space for a teammate to run onto. Riewoldt showed his footy smarts by timing his punch perfectly to Moore in space who then drilled a goal  :clapping. Good intensity and talk from the boys in this drill and fairly physically. Polak and Patto had a good duel going in their fairly even ruck contests. Tambo as he was going to ground snatched the ball away from Petts just a Kayne thought he had it in his hands (a loud "eff" could be heard lol) then had the composure and awareness to dish off a long handball to a teammate in space on the outside of the pack   :clapping. Others who did well with the clearances were Tuck, Foley and White. Lids played as a defender in this drill.

After that drill had been completed a search began for Clever's mouthguard. I presumed they found it as he later played in the short scratch match. As the next drill started Hyde joined the rehab ground. Midway through it Collins came off with a knock to the knee which needed a ice pack.

The next drill was an extension to the previous one. The idea being to use the knowledge they gained in a more game like situation. From a stoppage on the wing, each side (yellows vs whites) competed to get the footy down to their 3 forwards. The forward line for the yellows down our end were Petts vs Joel, Riewoldy vs Polak and White vs King. This drill was very well done IMO. Highly skilled and with good intensity. Of the newbies Edwards received praise for a pinpoint pass to Riewoldt while Jack himself showed what good hands he has on the lead under pressure. Of the regulars Tucky had one of his best training sessions. All this stoppage work was right up his alley. Browny although just another solid session from him is showing he's ready to fire.

To finish off about half the squad joined the rehab group (Mostly the newbies and older guys - Joel, Sugar, Tuck, Knobel, Gas, Browny plus Moore) to stretch and warm down while the remaining guys had a quick two 5 minute quarter 10 vs 10 scratch match. It was a shame it was only short as having fewer players on the park made for a quick attacking game with hardly any stoppages. Lids almost repeated his goal he kicked against Adelaide this year when he collected the game from the tap, put on the afterburners and ran and bounced his way to 50. Sadly he missed (he kicked the ball straight but his body (and hence leg) was facing the right behind area so it sailed in for a point. Lids spent the first quarter at FF then moved into the centre for the second. Tambo also enjoyed the extra space running hard all over the ground while Petts continuedly provided good leads. Polo was best in the clearances overall followed by Foley.

Match-ups (Yellows vs Whites).

Yellow F: Petts        Jacko         Harts
White B:  Newy       Clever       White

Yellow mid:   Patto          Tambo      Foley     Polo
White mid:    Graham      Krak          Tivs       Howat

Yellow B:  McGuane      Raines       King
White F:     Polak             Lids           Meyer

Scores

Yellows 3.2   (G: Petts, Jack, Tambo)
Whites  0.2   (B: Lids, Meyer)

And that was it. For the OER Ladies, Richo and Cogs were showing off their beach muscles at the end. What a shame my camera battery had ran out by then  :outtahere.

I'll post what photos I have later tonight.

Fantastic pics MT, as well as the reports.

I have my doubts on Danny Meyer, I believe he is being very pedestrian and may in fact be looking for a ticket back to one of the SA clubs.

Training today was at a hot and increasingly dusty Vic Park. It was meant to start at 10am but I didn't get there until 11 and only saw the last hour. Cogs, Hyde and all the newbies did the whole session from what I saw. Richo still stayed on the sidelines helping out as a marking target in the drills, doing kick to kick and 1-on-1 marking contests at the end of training. Also in rehab were JON, Schulz and Thursty. Cleve was also doing some running away from the main squad. I didn't see Kingsley, Gas or Petersen there but they may have left early.

No scratch match today. Only drills.

The first drill was the same as one they did on Wednesday with the squad split into 4 groups of yellows vs whites with two on each wing and the others 20-30m out from goal at either end.  Each group worked on stoppages - mainly ball-ups today. Good intensity and tackling and overall fairly highly skilled. Vic Park needs some water as when White hit the turf in a tackle a cloud of dust rose around him. No real standouts although the highlight was a quick snap for goal by Collins who got the ball to his feet quickly under pressure.

For the second drill they worked on running and carrying the ball and goalkicking on the run. Once again the squad was split into 4 groups in a diamond shape (one at each end and on each wing). The objective was to move the ball around the ground in groups of threes, first anticlockwise and then clockwise, with the final player shooting from about 30-40m on the run. If there were two misses in a row then everyone had to do a lap which was then reduced to half a lap. The first couple of goes were scrappy and results in misses so off they went on their lap. After a few hands on heads they started up the drill again. A mixture of goals and points followed so off they went again on half a lap. Howat and Cogs finished well in front of their respective groups while Foley, White, Lids, Tambo and Sugar finished close to one another in the remaining groups. Hydey was left behind in most runs but he may have been told to only jog.

After those runs and the boys looking fairly stuffed, they clicked into gear with the movement of footy from one group to three to the other and at one stage they kicked about 10 or 11 goals straight. After one miss and David King yelling out you've got to get this one or around you go again, the boys slotted another 6 or 7 in a row followed by around 8 in a row. By the end of the drill they were going at around 80-90% rate of conversion which was pleasing to see and didn't have to doing anymore half-laps which the boys yelled out in joy. Nothing like fear to motivate lol. Krak, Meyer, Tivs  :o, Sugar, Lids and Edwards didn't miss from what I saw.

And that was it. Half the squad warmed down with stretching and left while the others stayed for more goalkicking practice both set shots and one the run starting from the centre of the ground. Lids, Browny and Riewoldt (yep the shy ones lol) were taking pot shots from the boundary. Jack also was practising turning off one step around his body about 25m out on a more open angle. All went through  :o  :thumbsup

Photos to come later tonight or tomorrow.
