Richmond Development and VFL midfield coach, Xavier Clarke's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Saturday’s Round 3 VFL match against Port Melbourne.
AFL LISTED PLAYERS
Sam Lloyd26 disposals, five marks, four goals.
Lloyd played a good game and started well with three goals and 11 disposals in the first quarter. Spent time up forward and in the midfield, which was pleasing to see.
Anthony Miles26 touches, nine marks, six clearances, one goal.
Solid again in and around the centre. Had plenty of disposals and clearances, and is continuing to lead the way in our contested possessions. He’s setting a good standard at VFL level and certainly putting his hand up for senior selection.
Corey Ellis21 disposals, three marks, two tackles, four inside 50s.
Has put two consistent games together. Played across half-back, was clean with the ball when he got the opportunity and finished with good disposal and tackle numbers, which was pleasing to see. Went through the midfield at times and looked very clean, so he’s put his hand up with his early form.
Taylor Hunt18 disposals, four marks, two clearances, one tackle.
A real team player that played his role well across a number of positions, starting on the wing before venturing in to the midfield and moving down back late in the game.
Ben Lennon18 disposals, seven marks, three tackles, two goals.
A bit quiet, was held well by Port Melbourne’s defence. Ended up with a couple of goals and impacted the scoreboard, which was good.
Connor Menadue18 disposals, three marks, one tackle.
Coming back from AFL level, Connor started the game really well. His input for the game was pretty good across the board, playing across the backline.
Ivan Maric15 disposals, 36 hitouts, five marks, three clearances.
Rucked the majority of the game and competed well. He constantly shows great leadership and continues to be a really important part of the Club’s development.
Shai Bolton12 disposals, two tackles, three marks.
Looked dangerous at times and will continue to grow at this level whilst still learning the game style and the way we need to play. His pressure when he’s up and about looks really dangerous as he continues to take the game on.
Ryan Garthwaite12 disposals, eight marks, three tackles, four spoils.
Has proved that he’s a very good player at VFL level. He’s very brave, strong, reads the play really well down back, and he will continue putting his hand up for senior selection if he keeps playing the way he is.
Callum Moore11 disposals, four marks, three tackles, five spoils.
Competed hard in the air and at ground level with a massive grab showing what he is capable of with a strong set of hands.
Tyson StengleNine disposals, eight contested possessions, two marks, one goal.
Looked dangerous with ball in hand up forward, kicking one goal. He is a very smart player, hard to tackle and very strong in the hips.
Mabior Chol7 disposals, 1 mark, 5 hitouts, 4 tackles.
Had limited time in the forward line due to playing more in the ruck this week. He’s had better weeks and will continue to develop as a player with consistency being his biggest challenge going forward.
Ivan Soldo6 disposals, 3 marks, 7 hitouts.
With a good understanding of what he can do in the ruck, the coaches are looking to get a bit more out of him in forward 50. He started the game up forward and competed pretty well in the air when he had to.
Jacob Townsend1 disposal, 1 tackle.
Received a knock to his eye mid way through the first quarter, came off the ground and took no further part in the game.
VFL LISTED PLAYERSJacob Ballard25 disposals, five marks, four clearances, two tackles.
Played a pretty solid game in the midfield, and continues to perform. He’s a big bodied player and is complementing our midfield really well.
Brandon Wood23 disposals, six clearances, five inside-50s, two marks.
Started the game slowly, but found his hands on the footy by the end of the game. All-round he did well for us throughout the midfield.
Sam Darley22 disposals, four marks, three tackles.
Showed great leadership down back with his voice and communication, seven rebound 50s was really impressive.
Jake Aarts20 disposals, seven marks, three tackles, one goal.
Played multiple roles including both midfield and forward. Worked hard for most of the day, and got a well-deserved goal in a strong performance.
Thomas Silvestro20 disposals, four marks, two tackles, six inside-50s.
Battled hard on the wing like always, put his head over the footy and will continue to improve at this level giving his all.
Hugh Beasley16 disposals, three marks, two spoils.
Has had some big roles over the last couple of weeks at Full Back, he’s showed great leadership since coming to the Club and continues to defend really well.
Jack Holden14 disposals, two marks, three clearances, one tackle.
Played on the wing and plays this role well, importantly when he needs to win the footy he does. He broke the lines a couple of times out of defensive 50, which is really impressive, and will be encouraged to continue doing so.
Daniel Coffield13 disposals, four marks, six contested possessions.
Is in the best form he’s been in for a long time, his last two weeks have been outstanding. He saved the team a lot of times with his defence and intercept marking. He showed braveness sitting under the high ball and has been fantastic down back.
