Hawks are one of the newbie teams this year and this was only a practice match.

Up to us now to translate this form to the real stuff next up against Geelong in round 1.

Sounds like a rubbish excuse and poor planning by our club.

They clearly haven’t taken the AFLW seriously IMO.

Nothing to do with Club planning. The AFLW for whatever reason has decided to have an exclusive deal with one apparel company, an average one at that, to supply ALL AFLW clubs with all apparel.

Clubs don't get a choice. So there is no planning. Clubs supply basic info like sponsors etc and then Cotton On make all the gear, all the gear for 18 Clubs.

It is not the same as what our men's teams have with Puma where they work together for months.

Don't blame the Clubs for an arrangement that only benefits the AFL not the Clubs
Noted. Thanks for the clarification WP  :cheers
The club that keeps giving.

AFLW Tigers win practice match at the 'G

By Richmond Media
14 August 2022

Richmond AFLW rounded out its pre-season with a 44-point practice match win over Hawthorn on Sunday at the MCG, 8.4 (52) to 1.2 (8 ).

The clash was the Tigers' final competitive hit-out before the Club embarks on its fourth season in the competition against Geelong in the opening round of the season on Sunday, August 28 at GMHBA Stadium from 4.10pm AEST.

Leading the match from start to finish, Richmond burst out of the blocks with three goals in the first quarter, courtesy of Sarah Hosking, Millzy Yassir and Meagan Kiely. Yassir went on to boot three goals in a dominant display while Kiely slotted two.

The Tigers kept their intensity up in the next two quarters but were unable to inflict much scoreboard damage, before piling on four majors in the final term to run out winners in a convincing display.

Star midfield duo Ellie McKenzie and Monique Conti were dominant, while draftee Eilish Sheerin impressed with her hard-running.

Recruit Libby Graham and draftee Katelyn Cox looked right at home in Richmond's defensive unit, while fellow recruit Steph Williams was explosive in the forward line, booting a goal in the final quarter.

Eighteen-year-old Yassir said it was an "amazing" experience for the group to run out on the hallowed turf.

"It was very special to play on the 'G," she said post-match.

The lively forward was pleased to see the Tigers maintain a high level of intensity throughout the entire practice game.

"(Intensity) was our big focus for the pre-season and our bursts, and being able to play these games out," she said.

"Our professionalism and the way we handled our game, that's who we want to be this year.

"We know we're going to come out against tough teams this year, so it was a good hit-out today to go against Hawthorn and put that all into place."

Yassir said the result gave the group great confidence ahead of Round 1 in a fortnight's time.

"Today showed how excited we are (for the season)," she said.

"We were up and about and we cant wait for the season to get started."

New kids on the block no more: How the 2020 expansion sides are faring

Sarah Black
womens.afl
16 August 2022

THE UPCOMING season seven of the NAB AFLW competition marks the fourth time Gold Coast, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast will have fielded an AFLW team.

With another four new teams having just joined the competition, it's timely to look back at the last round of expansion, and just how those squads have evolved over the past two-and-a-half years.

RICHMOND

Surprisingly, Richmond has a similar list spread to Gold Coast, but has retained a couple more players than the Suns.

The Tigers cut hard and early, with the majority of their delistings coming after seasons one and two, making significant alterations to the initial list build.

Things stabilised somewhat in the last off-season, but opposition teams have come hard for Richmond's delisted players, seeing value where the Tigers either didn't or had an oversupply in the area.

Bec Miller is the lone defender still on the list from 2020 (with Laura McClelland able to play at either end), with the forward line and midfield remaining comparatively unscathed.

Still on list (11): Maddy Brancatisano, Katie Brennan, Hannah Burchell, Monique Conti, Kate Dempsey, Kodi Jacques, Laura McClelland, Bec Miller, Sophie Molan, Gabby Seymour, Courtney Wakefield

Playing elsewhere (7): Phoebe Monahan (delisted, now Brisbane), Alice Edmonds (delisted, now Western Bulldogs), Alana Woodward (Sydney), Sabrina Frederick (Collingwood), Sarah Sansonetti (delisted, now Collingwood), Akec Makur Chuot (delisted, now Hawthorn), Grace Campbell (North Melbourne)

Delisted (8 ): Christina Bernardi, Nekaela Butler, Ciara Fitzgerald, Emily Harley, Emma Horne, Iilish Ross, Cleo Saxon-Jones, Holly Whitford

Retired (4): Laura Bailey, Tayla Stahl, Lauren Tesoriero, Ella Wood

Richmond has signed 21 year old 181cm forward/ruck Amelia Peck to its AFLW list.

Peck's inclusion on the senior list is in place of the Tigers' first selection at the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, Charley Ryan, who is inactive due to an ACL injury.

Alyce Collett
central.rookieme.com
August 19, 2022

AFTER they started Season 6 firing defeating St Kilda in Round 1, Richmond got people got talking about how much the Tigers were going to improve. They also had Melbourne on the ropes early in Round 2, but unfortunately for Richmond that early season promise did not eventuate into much, only winning two more games for the season and finishing in the bottom four. With plenty of new faces in the door, will things turn around for the Tigers in Season 7?

Round 7: @ West Coast | Mineral Resources Park
Round 8: @ Carlton | Ikon Park

BEST 21:

B: Sarah D’Arcy – Rebecca Miller
HB: Bethany Lynch – Kate Dempsey – Maddie Shevlin
C: Jess Hosking – Sarah Hosking – Ellie McKenzie
HF: Emelia Yassir – Maddy Brancatisano – Tessa Lavey
F: Katie Brennan – Courtney Wakefield
R: Gabrielle Seymour – Grace Egan – Monique Conti
INT: Meagan Kiely – Kodi Jaques – Poppy Kelly – Stella Reid – Sophie Molan

EMG: Stephanie Williams – Meg Macdonald – Laura McClelland

Remaining players: Katelyn Cox, Libby Graham, Jemima Kelly, Charley Ryan*, Eilish Sheerin, Saraid Taylor (rookie), Jemima Woods

Inactive: Hannah Burchell (knee injury), Harriet Cordner (knee injury)

LEAGUE B&F CONTENDER: Monique Conti

One of the best midfielders of the competition, Conti regularly features up the top of best and fairest counts, and so there is no reason to suspect Season 7 will be any different.

Conti is coming off a stellar Season 6 where she won her third club Best and Fairest in a row, and another preseason where she has not had to split her time between football and basketball, so she has been solely focused on football, so who knows? She may have been able to lift her game even further because of that.

BIG YEAR FOR: Stella Reid

A top five draftee last year, Reid struggled to lock down a spot in Richmond’s side and spent much of the year in the VFLW side. With another AFLW preseason under her belt and the short turnaround between seasons, this is the perfect opportunity for Reid to try and cement her place in the side.

KEY TALKING POINTS:

How can Richmond take the next step?

For a few seasons now Richmond have had moments of promise, but have not been able to take the next step and really be a contender for finals. The question is, can they finally take that next step this season and make it to the finals?

Are any of their second season players going to have a breakout season?

Alongside Reid, the other two players Richmond picked up in the 2021 draft were Emelia Yassir and Meagan Kiely. The key thing about these two players is that they were particularly impressive in Richmond’s practise match on the weekend, which brings the question can they be the ones to have a breakout season and be the reason Richmond take that next step. We saw Tessa Lavey really star in her second year in the system, so will Kiely and Yassir follow suit?

How will they cover the leadership and experience they lost after Season 6?

Richmond lost a number of players in the offseason, including key experienced leaders Christina Bernardi and Sarah Dargan. The problem with that is that they players they brought in do not have anywhere near the level of leadership those two did, so how are the Tigers going to cover that? Who is going to step up?

Can they minimise the ladder damage from the first half of their draw to maximise their easier run home?

If you take a look at Richmond’s fixture, one thing you will notice is that the second half of their fixture is much easier than the first. If they want to still be in contention for finals in the middle of the season, they need to minimise percentage damage in the first half of the season so they can really attack the second half of the season and get those big wins on the board and into finals for the first time.

PREDICTION: 9th-12th

Sarah Black from the AFL website is predicting us to finish sixth this AFLW season.

Moving up: Richmond

Game-changer: The quick turnaround in seasons will mostly benefit developing clubs who are able to continually reinforce gameplans without a big break. Geelong, Richmond and the Dogs (lack of tall forwards aside) will be better for the short gap.

Ladder prediction

1. Melbourne
2. Brisbane
3. Adelaide
4. North Melbourne
5. Collingwood
6. Richmond
7. Fremantle
8. Western Bulldogs

9. Greater Western Sydney
10. Carlton
11. Geelong
12. Port Adelaide
13. Gold Coast
14. Essendon
15. St Kilda
16. West Coast
17. Sydney
18. Hawthorn

I actually think she's on the money Chuck

If we are being honest we have an incredibly soft draw. It is our 4th season. Natural progression with season on season improvement should mean we are ahead of the 4 new teams. We should also be able to beat not just compete against the original 10.

Yes we are without our best defender for the season but we have the best contested marking forward back. Egan is great pick up will give Conti the export she needs. McKenzie is fully fit.

Based on the above we should make finals. I think somewhere between 6-8. If we don't then it will be a wasted season

Just my take
