Didn't see any of it was flying home from Qld.

Read some of the comments on here, not going to comment on a couple and I refuse to get sacked into the same conversations over and over again

All I will say is this is season is make or break for our AFLW side. There are and can be no excuses.

Poor coaching and poor list management decisions cannot and should not be tolerated

Not only must they make finals, the must win one. That is what should be expected and is what can only be accepted

The club don’t take the women’s program seriously so why should we.

Every year it seems more and more like the club put their hand up to have a women’s side just so they could pat themselves on the back about being inclusive.

Footy department has been an absolute joke with the moves it has made (hello sheerin trade).

This pretty much, as well as drinking a bit of their own bathwater maybe because of the dynasty, thinking they needed to be at the forefront.

I can see reason to have the big club involved but personally I would have wanted to see the league develop a bit more before every team, including Richmond, started getting involved.

I get all these points.

But just be aware that the $35mil that we've got from both levels of govt is because of our women's program

Then that’s just another reason why they brought the team in ahead of you know actually wanting to develop a strong and competitive program.

We got the grant because of the AFLW program?

The AFL side had nothing to do with it?

We Defs got more then we would have with a women’s side. A large part of the redevelopment is focused on the women’s side.

From my experience in applying for government funding or local government grants, if you can’t demonstrate how the upgrades benefit everyone, you’re not getting the funding/ grant.

No question about that

But that’s a big difference to saying we got it because of the AFLW program

So you are telling me if we had a standalone AFLW side and no men’s program, they would have gotten the grant .. absolutely not

That's not what I said  >:(

Facts are there is huge focus on ensuring that women's sport get the best facilities and don't get left behind. Whether you agree, thinks it's fair or ridiculous is irrelevant. That is what is happening across the country in all sports.

Govts have been giving grants to sporting clubs that are promoting women's sport. That is what happened here. In lobbying for the funding for the redevelopment there was a massive focus on giving our AFLW the best facilities

When the redevelopment was officially launched the other month, the State govt minister made it clear women's sport had a lot to do with it

Here's the link to the presser.

Don't expect you or others to listen but it is what was said then.

AFLW Injury Report: Round 1, 2025

AFLW High Performance Manager Eliza Morrison provides an injury update as the Tigers begin their 2025 campaign in Sydney next Friday night against the Swans.

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 1-2 weeks

"Tessa has returned to team training and all is going well. She should be expected to be available for selection in Round 1," Morrison said.

Grace Egan: Quad, 1-2 weeks

"Grace is tolerating her rebuild really well," Morrison said.

"We will start to add in football drills this week, with the plan to expose her to enough team training to be available for selection in Round 1."

Beth Lynch: Shoulder, 1-3 weeks

"Beth is back training with the team," Morrison said.

"We still have a couple of progressions for her to tick off before playing, but we are preparing for her to be ready in the early rounds of the season."

Sarah Hosking: Hamstring, 2-3 weeks

"Sarah has been very diligent in ticking off everything in her return to play," Morrison said.

"Her last progression is longer minutes of competition, which we will continue to build over the next couple of weeks and have her ready for the early rounds of the season."

Montana McKinnon: ACL, TBC

"Montana is loving being back amongst the group," Morrison said.

"She has been working really closely with Shaun Hampson to keep exposing her to football-specific training for her ruck position.

"Montana still has a couple of tick-offs before we will expose her to full competition."

Why ex-Bomber could be the missing piece in Tigers' forward half

By Gemma Bastiani
afl.com.au
Aug 9, 2025

PAIGE Scott landed at Richmond through unconventional means, but they are shaping to be exactly the kind of forward the club has been missing.

Scott was Essendon's second-ever draft selection in 2022 and played 28 games in the red and black, but was determined to shift allegiances to the Tigers for the 2025 NAB AFLW season.

When a trade couldn't be struck, they opted to delist themselves and hoped to slide to Richmond's pick No.31 in December.

It all worked out and Scott is now filling the gap in Richmond's attack that the club has been missing since All-Australian Courtney Wakefield retired at the end of 2022.

Across the club's two pre-season hitouts, fans have been able to get a glimpse of how coach Ryan Ferguson is keen to deploy Scott. Starting at half-forward, they come up to the contest when the ball is thrown in the air and work as an extra around the ball.

What they are especially good at is recognising when to power back toward goal and present as the balancing player between the Tigers' keys Katie Brennan and Caitlin Greiser.

They offer a sense of physicality both in the air and on the deck, and crash packs in the way Wakefield used to in the yellow and black.

"We love them at Tigerland. They've brought just so much versatility to our forward line, so much passion in the way they play the game, and just the way they go about it has been extraordinary since they walked in the door," Richmond captain Brennan told AFL.com.au.

"The ability for them to get up and around the ball as well, and to hit back, and their high-speed running, crashing packs. Just their power and their ability to hit the scoreboard. It's just adding an extra (element of) versatility to our forward half."

Striking that balance up forward will be important should Richmond break through to not just qualify for finals, but win their first final in their AFLW history.

Tall forward Shelby Knoll is finally in the frame for a debut after knee injuries marred her first two seasons on the list, while speedy small Montana Beruldsen has been added from Sydney.

Brennan and Greiser remain the key posts across the line, while keeping Emelia Yassir at the club despite long discussions about a trade to Essendon.

Is it normal for a side to have seven players unavailable before the season has started

Must have been a rigorous pre-season
