A key defender should be top of Richmond's list, with Harriet Cordner (ACL) out of action for the remainder of the year. The Tigers were exposed at times in the absence of 35-year-old tall forward Courtney Wakefield (shoulder), and don't have a heap of depth in the area. A strong ball-user out of defence may also tidy up some deficiencies in that area.

We need more mids. We need forwards and we need defenders.

Maybe we should look at replacing Mikes daughter and get someone who knows what they’re doing.

Akec Makur Chuot has informed the Club of her decision to join expansion team Hawthorn for the next AFL Women’s Season.

The 29-year-old was an inaugural Richmond AFL Women’s player. She played 18 of her 23 AFLW matches for the Tigers, including five in 2022.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, thanked Makur Chuot for her contributions to Richmond.

"Akec has been a popular and valued member of our football program and the broader club across the past four years," she said.

"Back in 2018, Akec came to us looking for an opportunity to revive her AFLW career, and we are happy to have been able to allow her to do that.

"We wish her all the best for all of her future endeavours."

Inactive players: Who's out, who's a chance to come back?

The change in AFLW season timing has caught out a number of players who were hoping to return in the following season.

Richmond said the playing status of Iilish Ross (leg) and Hannah McLaren (illness) was yet to be determined.

Harriet Cordner and Hannah Burchell (Richmond) will miss the season due to knee reconstructions.

We need natural footy players that know how to get and use the footy.

Hopefully McKenzie gets a full preseason and can show everyone how good she is.

Also I’ve been critical of the selection of Stella Reid. Unfortunately she really struggled in her first year. Let’s hope she finds some form and gets some confidence and becomes the player we hoped.

Hopefully we can find Molan a new home.

We need to take this team seriously and invest in the vfl team too. Worst decision the club has made in a long time.

Bernardi, Sansonetti & McLaren have been delisted.

Richmond announces AFLW list changes

Richmond has confirmed the initial changes to its AFLW playing list for the upcoming season.

Christina Bernardi, Sarah Sansonetti and Hannah McLaren have each been advised that they will not be offered another playing contract at the Club.

Bernardi played 19 games for the Tigers across three seasons, including two as captain in the absence of Katie Brennan in 2020.

The 31-year-old has booted 30 goals from 39 matches across her six-season AFLW career that includes time at Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood.

Sansonetti managed 17 senior appearances for Richmond after being selected with the Tigers’ fourth selection (No. 40) in their inaugural 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.

The 20-year-old played eight games in 2022.

McLaren spent two seasons on the Richmond AFLW list and was a train-on player in 2020.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, thanked the trio for their contributions to the Club.

"Christina and Sarah can be proud of what they achieved as inaugural players at Richmond and we are appreciative of their efforts across our first three years in the AFLW competition," she added.

"Hannah is another that has played her part in helping to build the culture within our football program and has been a fantastic contributor to our Club.

"We wish all three players well for the future."

The list changes create at least two vacancies on the Tigers’ list ahead of the upcoming AFLW Sign and Trade Period and NAB AFLW Draft.

Key AFLW Dates

May 31- AFLW Sign and Trade Period

June 13- Pre-Season Commences

June 29- NAB AFLW Draft

August 25- AFLW Season 7 Commences

We must have a halfwit running our AFLW program.

Sansonetti was a talented young footballer.  Far more talent than 3 or 4 girls who remain on the list.

Staggering decision
