Richmond’s loss to Sydney came not with a late choke but after a second half in which Sydney had gradually exerted their domination.

Best-afield star Alex Rance said the club had lost its spirit and dare after the long break.

“It’s hard to put a finger on one little thing. We were a little wasteful and boring with our offence. We changed the angle of play and then stopped. We weren’t bold enough in offence. Offensively boring.”

Alex you were inspiring as was Astbury. Unfortunately your forward line team mates were absolutely dominated by their opponents. Barely a contested mark taken in the forward half. A lot of spectated marks taken by Swans defenders uncontested. Our small forwards were the spectators...

We went back to short sideways kicking.
