Couldn’t disagree more Jay. Dustin Martin is way too overrated. Everyone needs to watch his games more closely. The amount of cheap goals he gets sitting in a goal square unattended, the limited possessions he gets per game he is nowhere near the stratosphere of Dangerfield and Fyfe. They influence and turn games literally by themselves. Dangerfield 1, Fyfe 2 and then daylight. The Bont influences games far more than Martin ever does. As soon as he goes into the centre, he gets the ball every time and the game changes and the same applies to Cripps, he just doesn’t have enough good players around him yet but he does far more work and carries everyone on his shoulders. A ton more than Martin ever has.

Hes not. He built a reputation in 2017 and we are looking at him and pretending that he is still the same player. Fyfe and Dangerfield are top two and the rest debatable, but Dusty shouldn’t even be on the list. How many of the best players dont make All-Australian after a complete season. None. All the other players who missed out got injured in some way, shape or form and Dusty couldn’t even beat Walters for a spot at half forward.

I agree. Martin was ordinary for most of the year last year, and is good at getting easy goals. He’s not the bloke you stick in the guts who drags his team over the line, like Fyfe, Danger, Cripps and Bont.
Dusty hype has reached fever pitch.

I watch them every week. He does bugger all for 3 1/2 quarters and then pops up on a flank with a good kick inside 50 and everyone goes nuts. Where was he when his teammates were doing the hard stuff for the rest of the game?
If you want to see a bloke who stands up when it’s counted just watch Cripps drag his team over the line last year. That bloke is a super player, and for mine he’s on a par with Fyfe for number one.

I would add that the truly great players tend to make the others around them better whereas I reckon Dusty benefits more because he plays with good players.

The Martin Bio on the club website has Dusty rated as elite for disposals, Marks, Kicks, Clearances. The only stat he is rated below average is tackles

People just have selective memories. His goal against Richards when he kept his feet and kicked us into the final, when he pantsed Tom Stewart in the qualifying and surged it forward which got us the goal, the fact he gets scragged and illegally blocked when other players who play the same position get free kicks.
