But Martin has never had 30 disposals in a final. He's just played that little bit better than his teammates in a few grand finals. A great feat no doubt, but he also happened to be the best player in a team that wasn't chock full of stars, so not completely out of the odds (I know you like those).It brings me back to the eye test. We marvel at the feats of the greatest who've ever played. High marks, long kicks, skill, speed, toughness and a host of other elements separate the greats from mere mortals. How could the greatest player of all time not be capable of marking on other people's shoulders ? But but goal assists. LOL
Richmond fans don't seem to get that Martin isn't physically capable of doing a quarter of the things SNR did for fun.When I say I've seen heaps of players better than Martin it's never more evident than in a video like this.Martin is a great player who's had a profound influence on many of the most important games ''he's'' played in, but when it comes to individual feats on a footy field he's nowhere near some of the greats of our game.Waddling around and kicking some great timely goals in grand finals doesn't suddenly mean you're the greatest player who's laced a boot.
The best players in history have been either the competition's best ''coalface'' midfielders or key forwards.Martin is neither.Does his body of work in finals elevate him above the best key forwars or mids ? Not even close.

Port finish 3rd, 1st and 1st from 01-03 and their finals record during that time was 2-6 - there’s a reason they were known as chokers until they finally broke through in 04 against a Brisbane side that had to play a home prelim final at the MCG for some reason.

*impact in grand finals. He's been average to poor in five wk 1 finals and was not fully fit in the prelim final loss to Mason Cox.
Martin had a great 3-4 years but has been mostly inconsistent outside of that.
Would he be as good if the umpires paid free kicks against him every time he fends someone off by making contact with their neck/face/head?
