The club has really got to make it their key project to be able to sell memberships instantly, remotely.
We've had camps on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Bendigo and Echuca.
We've had the Cup Tour all over the place.
And we've had a practice match in Wangaratta, which I think has been the reason behind the current spike in sales.

I know people can buy via the website but I just think it's better to get them while they're emotional.
Everyone buys with a credit card nowadays so surely all it would take would be a card reader and an employee with an ipad entering details direct to the member database.
(and a bloody big sign saying "Membership on sale here")

I think a lot of these memberships now are coming from new members because the rollover of "committed tigers" was done a while ago.
With all reserved seats sold out these people are not really expecting to come to every game.
That's where the cream on top is to get to 90,000. They just want to be a part of the "hunting party".

We have heard all about Sheedy and McChins getting lots of Pie and Don fans signed up interstate, particularly in Queensland and NT.
Those people aren't planning on going to regular games in Melbourne, they just want to be part of the mob.
I think we are currently much stronger than any other club and should leverage it.

If we do go back-to-back we could add another 5 to 10,000 again on top of this year.
Make it as easy as possible to join the hunting party.

We are taking the cup to Adelaide for our match there on March 29 - trial card sales there. It's a member function.

Yeah and 90,000 by Round 1 :D
100,000 will be a breeze if we win about 15 games

This sums me up. Committed Tiger for a long time, interstate and just want to do my bit for the club, and be part of the mob.

Yep, I'm also a Country member.
Perfect for me (and potentially a lot of others).

Support the club.
Watch the big games on TV.
Travel the 200k to Melbourne five times a year to watch the lesser home games against mainly the interstaters.
Avoid having to reserve a seat and there's usually only about 5 or 6 games that fit my criteria (home, non-TV).

With the limit on reserved seating, this IMO is where our growth has got to come from.
The club's existing database of member addresses and attendance should be analysed to inform membership drives like our current one.

Richmond are set to overtake Collingwood and Hawthorn in membership figures this year after last weekend increasing rank-and-file support to more than 76,000.

The Tigers are aiming for 90,000 members this year after a record 72,669 signed up in 2017 to be part of the club’s first premiership since 1980.

Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said: “The power and passion of the Tiger Army is something special, and it’s really exciting to have record-breaking members with us as we head into the start of a new season. We have been advising our fans that the best way to ensure they don’t miss out on the (round one) game is to become a member. Members will get priority access when tickets go on sale.”

No club has ever broken the 80,000 membership barrier. Collingwood, who had 75,879 members last year, went close in 2014 with 79,347. Hawthorn had a record membership last year of 75,663.

Richmond is smashing membership records, with just under 80,000 members already signed up for the 2018 season.

Their 2017 grand final opponent, Adelaide, have the second-most members with 72,096 (as of January). Third is Essendon with 60,389, fourth is Hawthorn with 60,100, while Sydney round out the top five with 50,711.

The two newest expansion clubs have the least members – Gold Coast is trailing the AFL with 7,917, while GWS have over double that with 16,432. Brisbane have the third least members, with 17,114.

The Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne have the least members of Victorian clubs, with neither topping the 32,000 mark as of January 2018.

Cheryl Critchley, Herald Sun:

RICHMOND has roared into 2018 with a record membership and strong reserved seat sales after breaking a 37-year premiership drought.

The Tigers have also sold most of their memberships guaranteeing access to a Grand Final ticket if they make it again. The only remaining option, Inner Sanctum, costs $2200 for adults.

Richmond has already surpassed Collingwood’s previous AFL membership record of 79,347 set in 2014. Today, it had 80,221 members and hopes to top 90,000.

The club’s original reserved seat allocation sold out in January.

A new seat option, Roaming Tiger, allows members to register for a level one Punt Road end seat in bays M1 or M2 before each MCG home game. Unsold seats will be reallocated.
