Jay Schulz
« on: June 13, 2004, 11:44:54 PM »
He showed something again today. Presented well across HF (until Danny decided to move him into defence and Hall forward  ???  ::) ) and took some good grabs. He's attack on the ball and hardness at contests embarrassed most of his senior teammates. He's still raw and has a long way to go but there's definitely something there for a top coach (not Frawley) to work with.

MT can you please email the above to Mr Terry Wallace C/- of Fox Footy or 3AW please. Because I am terrified that Terry just doesn't see it

The kid has talent he just needs time to develop he has just turned 19 for crying out loud. When he was at CHF the structure up forward look really good because he stayed out of Richo's way

Im beginning to feel the same way about Wallace as far as his unwarranted comments about Schulz not being up to it.
For one thing he's obviously got a problem with the kid already - not a good start for a future coach.
On the other hand he may be playing mind games.
To say that about Jay at this stage of his career is silly.

If Wallace is to coach, which i think he will,he should be signed for no more than 3 years off the mark,
in which time the club works toward a top 4 candidate.

One thing Wallace will do is iron out any sissies that are lurking amongst the list and by doing so setting a WORTHY standard of leadership for the youth to follow instead of the cowardly, selfish, lethargic leaders we have now.

We'd look a far more attractive prospect after this task than we stand to be now.

5 years off a flag if this plan were to work.

the kid got 8 possessions lets not forget the facts, still has alot of improvement to go but he is young.

took 2 strong marks and laid a beautiful hip and shoulder in the first quarter, worth persisting with, but I dont think he deserves much praise for yesterdays game.

It was against Geelong when Wallace made his comment, so hopefully Schulz has done enough to change his mind since. Morrison would be gone though, which disappoints me. He is struggling at VFL level but I still think he would need a season for his mind and body to get used to playing in the cold.

That hip and shoulder Jay handed out was a pearler.
His marking in lousy conditions yesterday were a standout.
I agree that our set up early on looked good with him at CHF.
I think he is worth perservering with.
Might need to bulk up a bit more perhaps.

Terry Wallace is on White Line Fever every wednesday night i think. I might give them a buzz one night and ask about it. Just say that these two both have ability and are both young and just need a new coach. And also say that terry is most welcome at tigerland

Agree with your comments MT that he is still raw and has a long way to go.

How he can be written off at this stage?  He has had a lack of ground time and has just turned 19.  Even so, he has shown a lot more grunt than some, when given an opportunity.  Obviously has a lot of areas to work on, but give him a go before casting him aside.

The funny thing about Wallace is that one minute he's going for some high profile Foxtel position and yet is constantly offering pearls on how to coach Richmond - like he's itching to do it :-\

Might be two years to long :( One game doesnt make career or justify a two year contract !

I would assume 2 years - and I think it is the right call. He is 19. Certainly needs to get fitter.

Perhaps Jack - but sitting on the bench 3/4 of game doesn't help a career either. Perhaps it is a combined 2 year contract made up of 1/4 game time and 3/4 "pine time"

Thanks for that guys  :cheers.

Spot on WP. Schulz like many of our young blokes under Danny and Co. spent most of a game on the bench no matter how poorly certain senior players were performing. Pretty hard to improve and develop your footy, fitness and confidence watching the game sitting on the boundary.

Agreed, He's shown the ability, now he has the chance to show he can apply himself...on a regular basis
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.
