Richmond is also aiming to regain star forward Tom Lynch for the start of next season after he played only four games in 2023 due to a fractured foot, following a pre-season plagued by a plantar fascia problem.

The 30-year-old is now out of a moon boot but has struggled with repeated bone issues that have stalled his career.

The dual premiership player will gradually build up his workload across the off-season and the first half of the pre-season before returning to the main group after the Christmas break.

Sometimes I wonder if this has ruined his career and he'll never be able to tolerate high loads of strain on that foot again.

Phil Davis considers Tom Lynch as one of the hardest match-ups in the game right now.

Yeah because he's in the stands

Whats a premiership worth i ask.
Tom is not playing in a premiership at richmond in the near future but Collingwood Melbourne in particular and Gws would just about get over the line with a fit Lynch.
All desperately need a big dominant kpf and would sell their souls to get over the line especially the latter two.

It’s unlikely, but how quickly would a deal based around pick No. 6 accelerate Richmond’s list refurb in exchange for Tom Lynch?

From Barrett's 'Sliding Doors' column:

IF ...
the Tigers have been quiet in the trade period ...

THEN ...
they're comforted by the fact that they will have one of the biggest 2024 'recruits' anyway. Tom Lynch, who didn't play after round four this year and is still recovering from a serious foot injury, instantly elevates this team into a finals possibility.

From Barrett's 'Sliding Doors' column:

IF ...
his name wasn't raised in the past three weeks ...

THEN ...
he still looms as the biggest 'recruit' for the 2024 season. Tom Lynch. Not seen on an AFL ground since round four, still hobbling in a moon boot recently. But if he's right to go against the Blues next March, and then stays fit, a lot of the Tigers' problems of 2023 will simply disappear.

...........once Louie the Butcher gets hold of him in pre-season we'll be lucky if he is not forced to retire mid-year

Tigers forward provides update on injured foot

Zero Hanger (via 3aw)
November 7, 2023[/i]

Tigers spearhead Tom Lynch has allayed any fears he will miss a sizable portion of the pre-season, claiming he was making positive strides with his injured foot.

Four months on from going under the knife, Lynch is no longer in a moon boot, and though he is yet to commence running, the 31-year-old told 3AW he was feeling happy with where he was at.

"It's clearly been a slow build up and I'm not running yet," Lynch said.

"In another 3 to 4 weeks, I'll start on the AlterG (treadmill) and progress from there. It's really positive right now."
