Why would Clarkson go to Carlton and ruin his mastercoach reputation?!  :yep.

Carlton have some really good youth. They will pick up some guns in the superdraft this year and all they will then need is guidance. Give them 3 years and they will be hard to beat with the right coach.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

True but they had that 10 years ago with Fev, Kennedy, Waite, Betts, Simpson and adding via the draft Kreuzer, Murphy and Gibbs. They gave Kennedy away to get Judd which in the short-term got them up into the finals for a couple of years before it fell all apart flicking Ratten to get Malthouse. As we learnt from the hard way over three decades, the messiah chasing mentality only keeps footy clubs in permanent mediocrity.

Carlton have major cultural problems. The club still lives in the past with its oligarchy boardroom. The Blues have a total disconnect between those that run the club (and have run it for years) and its supporters/members. Why they haven't kept pace off-field (eg: membership) with the other big Victorian clubs. Continual poor on-field performance is a reflection of poor off-field performance and culture.

Easy target, mind you how we laughed when Brendan Gale made his outrageous statement.
Now it has come true.
Were we in as bad a state as Carlton is now?

Depends on when you equate the two based on 2018 being Bolton's third year.

* 3rd year of Wallace's reign (2007), we were arguably just as bad. Didn't win a game until R12 and our second not until R19. Finished with just 3 wins and a draw. Of our future premiership players, it was Riewoldt and Edwards' first year of AFL. We picked up Cotch & Rance in the draft at the end of that season. All up a decade off it.

* 3rd year of Dimma's reign (2012), we had beaten both eventual Grand Finalists Hawthorn & Sydney and knocked off a still good St Kilda on a Friday night at Etihad before falling away in the second half of the year (choking losses to Gold Coast [Karmichael Hunt goal/"worst 45 secs of footy"], Carlton, etc...). All up 5 years off it (played finals the following year though).

Victorian Docker Adam Cerra holds off contract talks.

Give them Bolton and Conca/Kamdyn or a 2nd rounder.
Win/win. Club has to be bold. Bolton surplus to our needs and this kid is a true midfield prospect

In 2010, Dimma's first year, for those first 9 rounds I'd say we were. Getting pumped every week, Relton Roberts and co running around for us. Dark times. Having said that, round 8 we played really well against Hawthorn, who were a very strong team, and we sort of turned a corner. We won 6 games from our last 13 and ended up finishing second bottom. I always felt, even when we weren't competitive, that we went out and tried our guts out during that period. We got smacked a few times but even then I didn't see anything as insipid as Carlton have been v Freo or Melbourne.

Flash forward 2 years and we were pushing hard for finals. I think we won 12 games that season 2012?

Edit: 10 wins and a draw.

Two rumours :

Sam Mitchell will definitely not be at WCE next year as assistant coach.

Clarkson will leave the Hawks to coach Carlton.

The former rumou is as certain as I can be. The latter is just hearsay and not as strong.

Those two things could well be linked. Clarkson moves on, Mitchell returns to Hawthorn.

FWIW, The Clarkson to Carlton one has been around for a little while and I think has some legs.

Cerra is a beauty and being out of contract id hope like hell we are in his ear. By hook or by crook id be after him.

Talking of mids Will Brodie not done a lot yet, not getting games  but i reckon he can play.He is that real big bodied mid that we dont have.

On the gcs  theme obviously Tom Lynch but what about having a little dig at two metre peter. A genuine fwd who really could give Nankervis a decent chop out.
Thing is we may have that player on our list in both Coleman-Jones and Chol. But with both we need to be a little patient neither are there yet. I actually think Coleman-Jones will make a fine ruckman.

Being a first year player Cerra is contracted until the end of 2019, so he isn't unavailable short term and no way in hell will Freo trade him while contracted

So....

Far more important targets at the moment for season 2019
