Summary:

* The Media talking up Essendon during the week motivated and excited us. We prepped our boys about the game likely being a highly contested and pressurised affair. We had some good phases tonight which was pleasing. Still need to work on our finishing inside 50. Too unselfish at times. It's a fine balance.

* Great that Edwards was b.o.g tonight. He's played over 200 games and is a premiership player. Most important attribute which Dimma rates is Sheds makes players around him better. He will go down as a great of our footy club. He's improved most years in which he has played. He has the ability to find players on the outside by skipping a possession. One of his special tricks. His highlights reel from 200 games is amazing.

* Caddy kicking goals gives us a better look with a even spread. Jack creates a lot of goals but doesn't get the credit from the outside/media. He's a big reason to us being 9-2 at the half-way mark.

* Players take time to fit into a new system. Caddy took that time but it started to pay off at the back end of the season. Josh has improved again so far this year. Still has a long way to go which is exciting for us.

* Moore - Athletic and great speed. Main thing he needs to work on now is his goalkicking. Really excited about him. In his 3rd year and has improved each year.

* Dimma said he was excited about another forward in Mabior Chol but Chol broke his foot at training  :(.

* We learnt a lot from our loses to Adelaide and West Coast this year. Enabled us to work on things which we weren't happy with. Return to the Adelaide Oval next week where we played the ground poorly at last time.

* Our players are humble but hungry. Trent leads from the front and Dusty and the boys love winning. Very lucky to be coaching this group.

* Brandon Ellis didn't go out playing terribly. Just had a few things to work on. Credit to him. Great game tonight. His leap, marking and run has returned.

* Short played 16 games last year but didn't get a medal. Jack Graham by comparison played only 5 and got one. Value both players equally. Jayden is one of the most improved players in the comp.

* The players are more excited about Dimma going down the slide than he is. Jack Riewoldt has told Dimma he will push him lol.

As the Tigers turn to the second half of their premiership defence at 9-2, Hardwick said they were as determined as ever to feature prominently in September.

"They're very humble and they're very hungry," he said.

"(Captain) Trent (Cotchin) leads from the front, (and) you've only got to look at Dustin, he just loves winning. If one of the best players in the competition loves winning and loves winning on a weekly basis, I don't need to probe these guys that much.

"(They're) such a proud group, they respond accordingly when they need to and they raise the fight when they need to. I'm very lucky to coach such a quality group."

Hardwick revealed young forward Callum Moore will be on the flight to take on Port Adelaide next week in what will be his third game for the season and fifth match of his career.

The 21-year-old, who stands at 193cm, has partnered Jack Riewoldt in the key posts, keeping premiership forward Jacob Townsend out of the side, while Daniel Rioli works back from ankle surgery.

"On form, we'll continue with it next week," Hardwick said.

"But once again, it's horse for courses.

"We've been pretty happy with how Jacob Townsend's performed from a role where he sits on an opponent and then gets offensive impact from that.

"We'll assess that on a weekly basis, sometimes we just pick the players who are in the best form.

"Cal's been in really good form, our VFL boys play tomorrow (Sunday), we'll see who puts their hand up and is ready to play again."

Hardwick said his side would take learnings into their visit to the City of Churches, having lost convincingly to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in round two this year.
