Alex Rance
Jack Riewoldt

LOCKS

Dustin Martin
Josh Caddy
Dylan Grimes

MAYBES

Think Short, Astbury, Vlastuin, Edwards and Lambert are all good chances of joining those boys in the 40 man squad although I think the 5 you named will be the ones to make the final cut.

Dusty on the bench? Come on Count, he may not be in 2017 form but I would still take him in my team before Oliver, Sidebottom, Cripps (and even Mitchell if I really think about it)

JON RALPH’S ALL-AUSTRALIAN SQUAD OF 40

Herald-Sun
20 Aug 2018

RICHMOND

No Shane Edwards, no Trent Cotchin. But Dusty Martin might win the Brownlow still so has to be in by any measure. Kane Lambert gets a nod ahead of the game’s No. 1 assists player Shane Edwards. Alex Rance has to be in but a fifth consecutive All Australian nod is no certainty, while Nick Vlastuin is rough and tough and fearless so gets into the dozen defenders on this list. Josh Caddy and Jack Riewoldt pick themselves. Dylan Grimes is stiff, but can you have three Tiger defenders in a dozen backmen picked?

Sportsday @SportsdayRadio

How many Richmond players will be in the 40-man All-Australian squad?

We've think there's ten players who could very well be considered.

Dustin Martin
Alex Rance
Dylan Grimes
Shane Edwards
Kane Lambert
Jack Riewoldt
Nick Vlastuin
Josh Caddy
Trent Cotchin
David Astbury

The journos are struggling with the fact these guys aren't racking up huge stats.

Lloyd and Laird are pretty much named because they rack up heaps of disposals.

Blicavs... lol!!

Doubt cotch will make it. He has sacrificed his game for the benefit of the team which is why we dont see him racking up huge numbers like he once did and why he wont be named.

Switch him for shorty and that would be the 10 which will be in contention for the 40 man squad although obviously all wont make it.

Great post, it’s mind numbing. Surely someone in the media have worked out what we are doing to the opposition in the Cats/Magpies games where their mids “dominated” but had little influence
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
