Moore needs to be persisted with IMO...apart from a couple of dropped sitters I thought he played his role perfectly....drew the defenders away from Jack and created space for Jack and others to lead into....some nice handballs under pressure too....a lot of "almost moments"  that suggest a break out game is not too far away once he puts it all together (hopefully it won't be 8 years away as it turned out with Edwards and his "almost" moments)  people need to realise he's not a body on body defensive forward like Townsend - he was a decoy forward relying on running patterns....he's not going to get 15 plus  touches and kick bags in that role- also those who say he's not KPF - I agree - he's utility/third tall. Would like to see him playing up the ground, on the wing...second tall is second last position I'd play him in, FF being the last... :shh

...and Menadue was shyte but should've gone on ball at some stage in the second half....just like CEllis should've last week (and Lennon last year for that matter),not saying either will make it but that's where they've displayed their best form in the twos this year and where they'll have the best chance of getting involved and gaining some confidence....dunno if I'd drop him - we'll need pace against Collingwood - but he needs to actually use that pace too... :shh :shh

Agree need pace against Collingwood but unsure about Menadue. If Menadue retains his spot maybe this is the game where he can use his pace to good effect. If Houli is fit they will drop Menadue. Agree Moore not a key position forward. Agree his leads distracted defenders from Jack but he needs to hold his marks and pose some form of threat. His usefulness relies on the fact that he poses a threat. Whilst Townsend is not quick he is a good mark over head, is usually a good kick at goal, provides an aerial contest and most importantly with his tackling and pressure he helps with locking the football in the forwardline. Townsend and Stengle deserve a game in the seniors perhaps at the expense of Menadue and Moore.

Houli won't play: Set for 'mini pre-season'

PREMIERSHIP defender Bachar Houli won't play at any level this weekend as the Tigers look to restock his post-injury fitness with a training block.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick insisted the 30-year-old returned too early from the groin complaint that saw him miss five games from round 10, despite him pulling up sore after his round 17 comeback.

Hardwick said there was a chance Houli would appear in the VFL in round 20, but this week he would focus on training after deeming his groin "not to the level" he was comfortable playing at.

"He won't play this week. We'll take a conservative approach with him," Hardwick said.

"He's probably started to miss too much footy, so we'll pull him back a bit, get a good training block into him again just to make sure he's ready to go.

"It's one of those injuries where we could probably push the envelope, but we're not quite sure how it's going to respond, so we'd rather be a bit conservative and make sure when he's ready to go, he's ready to go.

"It's a little bit disappointing for us because he's such an important player for us, but we're hoping in the short term that turns around."

Hardwick confirmed Houli would return through the VFL when fit enough to play.

Shane Edwards trained on Thursday despite an injury scare earlier in the week, as did Dustin Martin after copping a heavy knock to the face in the win over St Kilda on Friday night.

Liam Baker and Patrick Naish also trained as part of the squad and are a chance to make their AFL debuts.

Hardwick said a decision on whether either would be brought in for their first games in front of an expected 85,000-plus crowd against Collingwood on Saturday would be made after training.

"It's a tough decision as coach … whether we continue to go with what we know, or do we give a guy a chance?" he said.

"There's two ways of looking at it, you can either worry about it or you can say this kid's right for the challenge and we throw him in, and they're the decisions that we'll make."

Reece Conca was also on the track on Thursday as he ramps up his training load in a bid to return from a dislocated ankle in the coming weeks.

While Nathan Broad returned from a fractured cheekbone ahead of schedule last week, Dan Butler (ankle) and Jack Graham (shoulder) won't repeat the feat against the Pies.

"They're on the horizon, probably next week I'll have a better indication of where they're at," Hardwick said.

"They're certainly not available this week, but we'll have a better understanding of where they fall into place as of next week."

Main training for the Tigers ahead of massive clash with Pies Saturday. Bachar Houli (calf) on track but won't play this weekend so unlikely to be any changes. @superfooty

The outs are 100% right Doc.
Both Moore and Menadue have been average in every way. Not sure anyone can defend their form. We have been playing 2 short with those two in the side, and you cannot do that against good sides.

Good luck to Baker.
I’m looking forward to seeing a new face in a Tigers jumper. I haven’t seen him live yet but from what I have been told this kid has something. 🤞

I think he means his prediction was only half right, not that he thinks the club got it wrong.
