Enough with baiting and petty insults

Stick to the topic and debate that without the personal attacks

TBH I would also rather keep Stengle ahead of Bolton if it came down to a choice between the two..... :shh

Higgins was touted a top 5 pick and slid. He was more ready than Bolton for AFL. If Bolton can have a big preseason then I expect him to improve quite a bit. So what if he missed a goal from 40m out. He won't be the last to do that.

Seen enough of Shai
Don’t want to see anymore
Don’t think the kid actually gets the concept of team sport
No doubt has the ability to win the ball but his finishing off is questionable
Come off it. The guy was the youngest on the list till this year's intake. The fact he can win the ball is important. He has played about 10 games and you've seen enough? One thing he isn't is a small forward. Put him on a wing and let him run through the centre just as he did as a junior and in his best games in the VFL and you'll see a vastly different player. To do that at AFL level he needs to build his tank and be a Brad Hill type. On that point he has a long way to go, but in terms of talent he has more than many of the plodders on our list.
Brad Hill type??
Brad Hill has elite speed and endurance, Shai has neither of those things. In fact other than taking the occasional screamer, he really doesn’t have much AFL qualities IMO.
The thing I see most from a small sample size is he doesn’t work hard enough. That can obviously change but realistically it shouldn’t have to as he has had 2 years to work that out.
I’d trade him if we could get a pick under 30.
Draft genuine, good sized midfielders, no more Menadue, Bolton, Drummond types.

You must watch a different game to me. In the VFL, prior to his injury, he was slicing up opposition teams with his pace. In fact, I will go further and say that one of the main reasons the VFL team finished so poorly is that they missed Shai badly. Injuring his knee robbed them of his X factor.
Endurance is his problem not his speed.

Pretty sure Shai has elite speed.

Fair points Doc.

But for me his biggest issue is the defensive side to his game. It is basically non existent. And when appears it consists of average 1st efforts with no 2nd, 3rd efforts. That's not acceptable in today's AFL

He certainly isn't the first kid and won't be the last to struggle with the defensive side of the game but in the games I've seen so far he is a very long way off getting this part of the game up to speed and that's a worry

He’s pace doesn’t stand out when he plays senior football for us
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

I agree. Players like Higgins are the exception not the rule. Youngsters don't usually walk straight into senior football. He just needs time to adapt to the game at a higher level. Also, he's not a small forward.

I don’t think he can play halfback as he is just to light but after watching that vid, I’d definitely give him a go as a wingman. The main thing is he needs to work harder and put on a bit more muscle. Let’s hope the penny has dropped after not getting much of an opportunity this year.
Worth another crack...
