I assume that until he has actually signed with us, there is the potential for another club with a spot on their list to nip in and sign him instead.

So my question is, does another team have a spot they could slot Stack into?
They would as other clubs can use the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) up until March 15. However, another club would be taking the risk of signing Stack unsighted and in any case I'd doubt Stack (based on how he seems to be fitting in at Tigerland) would now want to sign with another club if we want him.

We're paying him a grand a week and it's included in the salary cap, so you'd imagine that at least affords us first right of refusal... :shh

WA mid reportedly earns Tigers gig

Perthnow
5 Feb 2019

WA prospect Sydney Stack is reportedly set to become a Richmond player after impressing during a two-month trial at Punt Road.

The Tigers are poised to sign Stack as a rookie under the league’s new recruitment rules which allow clubs to fill list vacancies until March 15, according to AFL Media.

While widely viewed as one of the more talented junior footballers in the country, queries over Stack’s professionalism saw him overlooked in last year’s national and rookie drafts.

But the Perth product - who has been living with Damien Hardwick since moving to Melbourne in December - responded well to feedback surrounding his fitness and held his own during Richmond’s training camp in Queensland last month.

The powerhouse club has also taken note of Stack’s game sense and ball skills; traits that earned him all-Australian selection despite managing just three games during the national carnival.

If recruited, Stack will be the second player to join Richmond during the pre-season supplemental selection period after former Gold Coast and St Kilda player Maverick Weller became a Tiger in November.

Under the new rules, clubs can sign players as rookies between December 1 and March 15 to replace retired or seriously injured players, or if they have a free spot available on their rookie list.

Eligible players must have previously nominated for the national draft or been on the list of an AFL club.

Appears to have that happy knack of being where the ball is
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Its widely regarded as being racist in saying this but the best place for this kid is away from his relatives and friends.

Knew a bloke in my game and he worked his guts out to try and get ahead but his family and mates who did nothing for themselves just sponged off him and dragged him down.

He secretly organised a job in melbourne through his boss and just up and went with his missus without telling any of his relatives or mates it was the only way he could see himself getting ahead in life.

Seems Sydney is in the same boat. With the right people and environment this kid will thrive and he sure as hell can play.  Ross RC-D, Stack and English all good gets imo and Stack is probably the most talented of them all.
