TK, Stack is impressing those at the Club so far.

Will Tigers sign WA teen as a rookie?

Jon Ralph,
Herald Sun
15 December 2018

Exciting West Australian teen Sydney Stack is already winning plaudits for his Richmond training form as he seeks to impress coach Damien Hardwick.

Hardwick is not only assessing the form of the livewire indigenous teen but giving him room and board after Daniel Rioli moved into the Fevola house to live with his girlfriend.

Stack has until March 15 to prove his professionalism and win a rookie spot after being the most talented player overlooked in the national and rookie drafts.

He missed a national championships game after failing to meet training standards then responded with exceptional form to become an All-Australian.

Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch said on Friday the Tigers had already been impressed with his football acumen in his time at the club.

“All I have seen is his talents and his competitive nature and the reason why he was All-Australian,” Leppitsch said.

“Those things are already evident on the training track. He is living with Dimma, so maybe give him a call but he seems good.

“It has only been a week so it’s very hard to judge and time will tell. But as a footballer he looks very much an accomplished young player, so if that’s the reason he stays on the list he is going about it the right way. The other stuff is for our management to take care of.”

Stack said in the lead-in to the draft that he saw football as an escape after a turbulent childhood growing up around violence.

“I just really find my peace there, on the footy field,” he said.

Great opportunity for the kid, we have a great culture so no excuses.
Take it with both hands balls in his court really!

All  I hope they invest in the young mans well being with some professional help. Seeing he's living at the Dimma's it would be surprising if they weren't.
It's tough to escape a tough childhood!

As we discovered with Yarran, it takes more than culture to transform a kid. Something has to burn within him to make that enormous transition to professional sport from such a difficult background. I have enormous respect for Jeff Garlett who was living in a car and going without regular meals while playing WAFL.  He is an inspiration for kids like Stack who can hopefully emulate what he’s achieved
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

What's our hit ratio with bad kids troubled young men. About 50 50?

IMO less than 50/50.

Dan Connors
Troy Taylor
Ben Cousins
Chris Yarran

The difference here though is Stack costs us nothing in term of picks and we get 4 months to trial him out on and off field before we have to decide to sign him up as a rookie or not.

Does that blonde half forward we recruited 2 or 3 years back who cried foul count too? Forgot his name never played a game.  So if we have really low expectations of this guy and say 25% chance then it's probably realistic.

Nah he had mental health problems which is why we drafted him late and no one else went near him. Was a risky pick in its own way.

Reece McKenzie?

Although I wouldn't call him a half forward

Yeah that's the one. I thought he was a half forward or a forward tall at least but it's moot now.
