One of the rare few who busted their backside and gave a stuff trying to generate run to win the game. If all his teammates showed the same intensity and desperation as Syd did tonight we would've won easily.

Well done Stacky. You can hold your head up.

Yep re-sign him ASAP and not as a rookie either

Should be on the main list ahead of a number of others

Where are all the apologies?   :shh :rollin :shh

What for?

May even be as important to keep as Bolton...possibly even moreso.... :shh

Damien Hardwick paid tribute to Stack during his post-game press conference.

“He was very good. He’s built ever since he came back into the side,” Hardwick said.

“We stuck by him as a footy club and Sydney worked incredibly hard to earn the trust of the group again . . .

“He’s been head down, backside up.

“So, look, it is a great sign for him. But the challenges are certainly there moving forward for Sydney once again . . .

“He’s an incredible football player, there’s no doubt about it.

“What I have been really impressed with is his ability to learn and grow from an off-field perspective, which we think is going to hold him in good stead moving forward.

“He’s only scratching the surface of his career.

“There’s no doubt he can play the game, and we’ll continue to invest in him, both on and off the field.”

Positive: Sublime Sydney Stack

Sydney Stack burst onto the AFL scene in 2019 before fading out just as quickly as he arrived.

After an injury riddled 2020, some off-field bother over summer and a slow start to this year, it’s safe to say that Stack is playing for his AFL career.

With his contract up at the end of the season, Stack has to prove himself all over again, and that he did on Sunday.

He was absolutely sublime in defence, winning 25 disposals (his career best) at 96 per cent efficiency, along with 10 marks (another career high), 12 intercepts and five rebound 50s.

Stack was calm when in possession and provided plenty of much needed drive and his diving mark in front of an oncoming pack was ridiculously brave.

He did his chances of winning a new deal no harm whatsoever and put forward a good case for a regular role as a running half-back.

Stack’s on for contract extension

Jon Pierik
The Age

Richmond defender Sydney Stack, one of the great tales of redemption this season, is firming for a contract extension.

Tigers senior advisor Neil Balme said on Tuesday Stack, who was the side’s best player in the four-point loss to Fremantle on Sunday, had shown he was an important piece of the future.

Stack, 21, is off contract this season and had to reaffirm his commitment to the team and club after a tumultuous off-season in which he found himself in jail in Western Australia after breaking bio-security protocols.

“It shouldn’t be a problem, I would think,” Balme said of a new contract.

“It’s a two-way relationship, isn’t it? You have got to give them a chance and help them, and that’s what we have done, and he has responded well.”

Stack, having regained match fitness through the VFL, returned to the senior side in round 17 and against the Dockers had a career-high 25 disposals and a career-high 12 intercepts and 10 marks. He also had four score involvements in 455 metres gained.

“He is a very talented kid … it is not as easy to play the game as we think it is. In fact, I haven’t made a mistake in the lounge room for 25 years,” Balme said.

Always a good sign when a player backs up a good game the week before. Another 22 possies tonight. Loving his mindset now to be creative and break the lines off HB to open the play while still working hard other way to be defensively accountable. One of our cleanest ball users by foot too. Well done Syd!
