This is my point exactly. Has he been given chances yes. But he’s also been through a lot worse than the average footballer/person. He went to prison for 3 weeks over Christmas which I personally think is a waaaaay too heavy handed fine for the offence. The continued media beat up is not going to motivate him to do a 180 and change things around.

Maybe I’m being too soft of stack and this is tin foil hat talk but considering he was in the same draft as Walsh I am of a firm believer the afl and media would rather the clean cut private school #1 draft succeed over kfc bucket prodigious talent stack overcoming his hardships and taking the mantle as best of his draft year and hence they’re happy to kick him while he’s down

There is no denying the raw talent of the recently delisted Tiger.

Sydney Stack burst onto the scene in 2019 after he was picked up via the Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) and went on to play 17 games, finishing third in Rising Star voting.

Over the course of four years at Punt Road, Stack had his fair share of off-field issues so it would take a brave club to take another chance on him.

There is absolutely no doubting his immense talent, but it is his dedication and application that must be harnessed.

The Dockers are unlikely to pursue the 22-year-old, but could the embattled Eagles put out their hand?

The 22-year-old was a revelation in his first year at Punt Road, featuring both as a forward and in defence and finishing third in the Rising Star Award, behind Sam Walsh and Connor Rozee but ahead of players like Bailey Smith, Gryan Miers, Nick Blakey and teammate Liam Baker. Champion Data rated him as an elite general defender heading into the 2020 season, during which he received a 10-game suspension for breaching Covid protocols in the Queensland hub. After that ban he played just nine more AFL games, including only two in 2022, taking his career tally to 35. Stack is clearly good enough to remain at AFL level - the Tigers‘ delistings were among the most talent-laden this year - and just three weeks ago Richmond development coach Xavier Clarke had been expecting Stack to remain at the club. It’s just a matter of getting him in the right environment and ensuring he’s fully committed to the AFL. A move back home to Western Australia would make a lot of sense, or even to a club that has plenty of professionalism like Geelong.

Delisted Richmond youngster Sydney Stack is "preparing to be an AFL player in 2023" as he continues to assess his options for the future of his professional football career.

Stack was among a quartet of Tigers players not offered new deals for next season, with the Western Australian utility arguably the most surprising axing from this year's list of departures across the competition.

The 22-year-old saw his time at Punt Road come to a close after four seasons and 35 games, with his final year at the club amassing just two appearances at AFL level.

Despite the limited exposure in 2022, Stack firms as a strong chance to extend his AFL career beyond this year, continuing talks with clubs in hope of a lifeline.

“He is preparing to be an AFL player in 2023. So hopefully someone steps forward and provides him with an opportunity. He's pretty open to going anywhere for a chance,” Stack's manager Paul Peos told News Corp.

“He has had some pretty good discussions with teams so hopefully that progresses forward.

“On a list of 40 it's a pretty low financial risk and clubs would be weighing up the pros and cons.

“Sydney has been through some tough periods but he's certainly learned some lessons.”

According to The Herald Sun, Stack has gained some level of interest from multiple AFL clubs ahead of the opening of the delisted free agency period, with Gold Coast among the list of potential suitors.

Stack could remain without a club after the November 15 deadline for delisted free agency, looming as a chance to join an AFL club as a pre-season Supplemental Selection Period recruit for the second time in his career.

The Perth product has returned to his home state of Western Australia to continue training to stay in shape should a lifeline arise, however a spot on either Fremantle or West Coast's list is seen as unlikely.

Delisted free agency opens on Thursday, November 3 and will run until Tuesday, November 15 - including a one-day break for list lodgement on November 10.

Fremantle encouraged to give delisted Richmond Tigers midfielder Sydney Stack a chance

A draft expert has encouraged Fremantle to give Sydney Stack a second chance at the AFL level after losing some of their experienced depth this off-season.

Perth-product Stack was delisted by Richmond after 35 games in four seasons, suiting up for the Tigers just twice in 2022 while averaging 15 disposals and kicking 16 goals in 15 VFL appearances.

AFL draft guru Michael Ablett said the Dockers should look at handing Stack or delisted West Coast forward Zac Langdon a rookie lifeline as cover for any potential injuries to their frontline midfield.

“What could cause the biggest issue for them (Fremantle) is a little bit of a hit to their depth ... it only takes a handful of injuries and you start to dig into your list,” Ablett said.

“When you’re talking about a club that’s nearing a premiership window, you really look towards those 24, 25-year-olds and that for me would be the gap in their list.

“Do they explore someone like a Sydney Stack that can come in? We know Syd has had his challenges and fallen out of favour a little bit for some of his errors off the field, but his on-field stuff is electric.”

Stack’s manager Paul Peos said the midfielder was training to be an AFL player in 2023.

“So hopefully someone steps forward and provides him with an opportunity. He’s pretty open to going anywhere for a chance,” Peos told The Herald Sun.

Former Richmond utility Sydney Stack could end up under the tutelage of Ross Lyon with St Kilda believed to be showing interest in the West Australian.

Stack, 22, was delisted by the Tigers this year after 35 games in four seasons but had hoped to receive an AFL lifeline after returning to Perth.

It is believed the Saints have been in regular talks with Stack and his management, with Lyon’s side having two list spots available for the pre-season supplemental selection period or mid-season draft.

Stack has been training at his original WAFL club Perth, where he is likely to play next season should he not receive a spot on an AFL list.

Gold Coast had two open spots on their list, but used one to sign Jed Anderson.

If he’s not training with them soon then I doubt he’d be in line for a SSP spot. I think there’s a handful of clubs waiting to see him put it together for a season at state level before considering him.

St Kilda appears set to swoop in late for Ballardong Noongar delisted free agent Sydney Stack, who has attracted Fremantle’s attention.

Stack returned home to Western Australia in the offseason since Richmond’s shock call to cut the Indigenous talent after four seasons and 35 AFL games.

The 22-year-old had taken up an offer to train with Perth, the same WAFL club from which the Demons junior was signed during the preseason supplemental selection period.

That last-ditch recruitment method could again save the agile utility’s AFL career after being largely ignored across the trade period and the ensuing draft.

Paul Peos, Stack’s manager, said his gifted client is focusing solely on an AFL career again after criticism levelled at his professionalism, fitness and commitment.

“Hopefully someone steps forward and provides him with an opportunity,” Peos said.

“He’s pretty open to going anywhere for a chance.”

St Kilda have begun to engage in ongoing conversations with Stack over filling one of two remaining senior spots on its list.

The directive in the conversations are believed to ensure the Saints’ fitness programs are strenuously followed 3,500 kilometres away from the Moorabbin training base.

Feel like his manager is the only one that keeps putting it out there that there are other clubs into Stacky. The only time I’ve heard someone affiliated with an afl club mention stack was someone from freo (think Peter bell) say they need to see if he can go back to state level and perform on field and stay out of trouble off field before they consider him.
