This shows how far we've come as a club over the past decade. Pumping resources into our recruiting dept. has paid off big time. Also explains why we were in the wilderness for 30 years when we relied on part-timers and didn't keep up with the times as footy went professional on and off field. In the 90s we traded away first round picks for ordinary opposition fringe players while no way in the 00s would we have ended up finding so many quality players from the 3rd round down. We use to joke on here how bad we were with middle-late range and rookie picks. So we would've remained languishing in the bottom half of the ladder and worst still a number of those in the top bracket would have had every right to look to free agency under the current system to leave for a top club. That gawd all that crap is in the past and now Tigerland has a well resourced club from top to bottom and a great people culture.

Couldn't agree more.

But I know for a fact that the mentality around how we treat our late round picks and rookie picks is totally different. We used to use them like hail marys and flyers with a whatever sticks is a win ethos, to treating them as preciously and carefully as we do our first and second round picks.

And we used to roll out the red carpet and pull out all the stops for the first round picks, now we treat all our recruits with the same amount of respect and expectation. How could those late round picks possibly be expected to prosper if the club itself had halfway written them off?
