Easily and makes it so much sweeter after doing the hard yards for sure and watching all the 20 somethings that stuck by us receive third well deserved reward

I feel sorry for you if your answer is still no.

3 of the greatest days of my life.
And this year was the best of the lot for me.

After such a poo year in Victoria with COVID, this made this year still a memorable one.

I just hope our ride isn’t over yet- it’s just too good.

It doesn't make up for it as those 3 decades were wasted years and we should never forget the self-inflicted mess that put us in the wilderness for so long. However, all that misery makes you appreciate the success now and vindicates us supporters who always felt that when it did finally arrive we would become a behemouth on and off field once again.

Agree. Need to learn from the past and make sure the same mistakes are never repeated.

I think the irony in some of our posts is that we are implying that we have learnt from others?
Pretty sure we have set new standards for others to learn and follow.
Makes the 3rd flag taste that little bit sweeter.

Trying to be objective and realising it’s just so difficult to win a premiership, for me the answer is yes. You have clubs like freo and st kilda who are desperate for a flag and big clubs like Carlton Collingwood Essendon it’s a long time between drinks for them.

A premiership is ridiculously difficult at the best of times. There’s no guarantee you get to recruit a Cotchin Martin Riewoldt Rance Edward’s all within the same time frame. not to mention us losing the free kick count every week and Steve hocking changing the rules to deliberately hamper our advantage.

These 3 premierships are extraordinary and when the sun sets on our dynasty if our club takes 30+ years to push top 4 again I think I’d be ok with that.

Are you happy to go through another 37 years of irrelevance for 3 flags around 2060?

I am absolutely enjoying our time in the sun but no club should ever perform so poorly for so long. I hope we have learnt and never go back there.

Every decision over that 37 year period - right or wrong - has led to 3 premierships in 4 years and a team with still a chance to add to that record.

All good for me

At this risk of this going into a circular discussion, I think the club has learnt it’s lesson and that has really been 10 years in the making.
What is now clear to me is that the vision of Benny and co. at the end of 2010 was the start of the new generation in leadership at the club.
We’ve bedded down our off filed first - finances, player facilities and then player recruitment (rookie, trading and late picks) before then nailing player development and game style.
The lessons we have learned we really 25 years in the making not 35 years  ;D.
We didn’t just wake up Sep 30 and magically become premiers.
The last 4 years have been the cream we probably never expected but now most likely crave as a club and playing list.

So true.

Hope Benny and penny stick around. Penny copped a fair bit of crap too for being a woman and American. Must feel very vindicated.

I suspect the club will never go as low as it did previously.

If the question is more focused on the holistic future rather than just the 3 flags then I would say yes it was worth it.

Great question by the way.  It's s tough one. Do you want to be competitive every year and win the flag say 3 times in 20-30 years or deliberately go down the ladder for picks to become a powerhouse and win multiple flags over 5 years.  We did neither of those things and did it so no sure fire way to predict anything.
I certainly wouldn't go back to the late 80's, early 90's when in those days just one win felt like a flag we were so bad.
The worst things about being non competitive is the flogging you get from your friends and the smartalec comments.  I sure am loving this aspect of being a smug supporter at the moment.

Agreed. I remember the highlight of ‘88 or ‘89 being Peter Wilson doing cartwheels when we beat Carlton.
No more of that thanks  :scream

I think a lot of the last 30 years of poor results was due to the VFL/AFL expanding & handing out massive advantages to the new clubs.  The moment the hand outs stopped we rose to the top again.
There were plenty of times we were our own worst enemy, hopefully we have put those days behind us.  That is our major objective in the future - to make sure we don't implode & go back to being the 'bad old Richmond'.
Football clubs are constantly changing, we have a great organization right now but it can't last forever.  Constant change will see to that.
Our fortunes always float on the personnel we have year by year, we wont always have Benny or Balmey or Peggy with Dusty, Cotch &  Grimes on the field, it will always change & sometimes for the worse.
We have it right at the moment & are enjoying the best period of our whole existence,  but change is the only constant in life & in football!  Our present crew can never pass on all that they have learned to their successors (there wouldn't be a challenge to rise to if it went on forever), the next crew wont fail to learn the lessons of the past but they might find themselves dealing with an impossible situation that could never be avoided.  We will rise & fall as always, regardless.
I can only wonder how Hafey, Hart & G.Richmond would've handled a global pandemic such as the one Dimma, Cotch & Peggy are dealing with now?  And what if the AFL decide to add another 8 teams to the competition & we don't see another quality junior player or top draft pick for another 20 years?  Could we blame the next coach, captain & president for failing to learn the lessons of the past as we tumble down the ladder?
I am damn proud of our club right now, but I will still be equally damn proud of our club if we finish in the bottom half for the next 20 years.  That is the only constant in football - the belief that our supporters hold in our hearts that no matter how bad things are on any given day, we will always bust our guts to rise back to the top!
Go Tigers!     :gotigers
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

I reckon something under estimated in our journey to the top of the heap was the fact we got dudded with new clubs coming in as we bottomed out in 2010-2012.
Makes the rebuild so much more impressive
