If Richmond needs a back-up ruckman to cover for Ivan Soldo in 2021 and provide a contingency if Toby Nankervis goes down, Trengove could be a great short-term addition. The Tigers have never needed the best player in any position, rather they find the best role player and it just works like a charm.

THE AFL DELISTED FREE AGENTS YOUR CLUB SHOULD TARGET

Matt Parker (St Kilda)

The Tigers are highly unlikely to get involved with delisted free agents given the current strength of the list. If anything, some added depth in the forward line wouldn’t hurt.

Perhaps a punt on a player like Matt Parker could work.

He has plenty of raw ability and showed in his 17 games in his debut season in 2019 that his best is more than competitive at the elite level.

While it is fairly implausible that he will end up at Richmond, Parker is the type of player who could potentially prosper at a great club.

KEVIN SHEEHAN'S TOP 40 AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan has released his top 40 draft prospects ahead of the 2020 AFL Draft on December 9.

“From nearly 1000 nominations for the NAB AFL Draft from clubs across the nation, I’ve settled on my top 40 prospects for what will be the 35th NAB AFL National Draft. An integral part of our AFL competition and its competitive balance across all 18 clubs,” Sheehan said in a statement.

"We look forward to celebrating the best of the best from around Australia on NAB AFL Draft Night."

Not every club will walk into next month’s national draft with classy top selections.

So it means plenty will need to be creative and do their homework after a season like no other.

Foxfooty.com.au looks at some of the big bargain prospects for clubs looking outside the top 20.


Matthew ALLISON

Clubs: Calder Cannons/Vic Metro

Position: Key Forward

Size: 194cm/81kg

Teams that may suit: Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond

Bio: Allison has been a big riser for clubs on their draft boards across the year, with the tall having the potential to burst into first round. The 18-year-old might be very raw given his limited output for the Cannons in the NAB League last year, but has plenty of scope for development. At the Vic Metro combine, he ran 2.97s in the 20m sprint and ran a good 2km time trial (6:17).


Kaine BALDWIN

Clubs: Glenelg/South Australia

Position: Key Forward

Size: 193cm/90kg

Teams that may suit: Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond

Bio: Baldwin has had a tough run with injuries and could end up as a bargain for a club outside of the first round. His talent was clear at the Under 16 championships for South Australia, but has hardly been seen since. He tore his ACL at the start of 2019, before partially tearing the same ligament during a trial game at the beginning of this season. His contested marking and strength is the key traits that makes Baldwin standout, with the forward able to have an impact on a game and push further up the ground. He recently tested at the SA combine and is ready to hit an AFL pre-season hard.


Conor STONE

Clubs: Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Forward

Size: 188cm/81kg

Teams that may suit: Essendon, Geelong, Richmond

Bio: Clubs pouring through vision of Stone in 2019 will be coming across one standout match, given the forward slotted five goals on NAB League debut for the Chargers. His acceleration can help him get ahead of his opponent close to goal, with the medium tall possessing good overhead marking ability. Stone has smarts and has pinpoint accuracy from set shot attempts. Given his athletic capabilities, clubs might try and develop him to play further up the ground in the future.
