With a number of Richmond scouts watching on, including wounded Tiger star Jack Riewoldt, Maurice Rioli Jr had 13 disposals, six tackles and five inside 50s for Northern Territory.

The 171 centimetre prospect is eligible for the 2020 draft and could be a Tiger father-son pick.

MR jnr was named in the bests for NT against Tassie.

I'm guessing we'll be trading for a bunch of late future picks in this year's trade period to make sure we have the additional points for the 2020 draft. Maurice jnr is going to rated highly next year if he is already playing for NT as an underage player.

Eddie while commentating the Dogs Norf game mentioned MRJnr.

Went to watch the annual Scotch v Melb Grammar hit out, apparently Rioli was something special (according to Ed)...

FWIW, my brother lives in Darwin and recently came down to visit us. I asked him about Maurice Junior.

He reckons he will be a superstar. My brother goes and watches a lot of NTFL and said that forget the stats, he looked classes above that level.

In the comments section of the Fox trade talk blog this morning (see link), the mod mentioned something about us not trading for picks next year because Maurice Jnr won't cost us much. I can't access the earlier morning comments for the exact quote but it was something along those lines.

Grey Morris, NT news sports editor, was just on SEN and said he's spoken to Joel Bowden and Richmond is watching Maurice jnr very very closely. He'll be a Richmond player (available in next year's draft). Maurice jnr is unproven as he's played little senior footy (he's 16/17) but he's been a good junior footy player.

Richmond father-son prospect shines in special Rioli 1,000 game

By Andrew Slevison
SEN
Dec 1, 2019

The prospect of again seeing a Maurice Rioli don Richmond’s yellow and black no doubt has Tigers fans licking their lips.

When Maurice Rioli Junior ran out for St Mary’s in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) on Saturday, it marked a special occasion for the Rioli clan.

The Saints celebrated 1,000 NTFL games for the Rioli family and did it in style with a 123-point triumph over Waratah - 25.14 (164) to 6.5 (41).

In his first game back in the senior side since last season, the 17-year-old son of Tigers great Maurice Snr helped himself to three first-half goals, including a customary Rioli snap from the pocket, and was named third best on ground for St Mary’s at TIO Stadium.

Maurice Jnr had flown in from Melbourne, where he is studying at Scotch College, to take part in the special occasion for the famous football family.

“It was pretty good, it was a good win,” he told AFLNT.

“It was good to represent and play for the fam. Me and the two other brothers, Ben and Shannon.”

Rioli is back to school on Monday but says he will return to Darwin to play some more footy for St Mary’s later in December or early in the New Year while spending some time with his family.

“Yeah, probably get a few games after Christmas. I’ll just stay focused on footy and I’ll hang out with the fam and go hunting and fishing,” he added.

The talented youngster qualifies for both Richmond and Fremantle under father-son rules but has previously said he wants to following in his famous dad’s footsteps and play for the Tigers alongside cousin and two-time premiership player Daniel.

He is eligible for the 2020 AFL Draft.

Rd 9 NT News Rising Star award nominee for the 2019/20 TIO NTFL season is Maurice Rioli Jnr from the St Mary's FC. A case of deja vu for Maurice after also being nominated as the Rd 9 Rising Star last season!
