Has there been a rule change?

You literally cannot touch a forward as a defender I'm noticing so far. There has been heaps of tiggy touch wood frees being paid.
Have the rules changed?
Is it no crowd noise?
Are they trying to increase scoring?
I don't like it.

Must be trying to increase scoring. I agree it's definitely harder umpiring on the defenders.

It's probably the usual round 1 overkill by the umps. The AFL directs the umps what to focus on and the umps overreact. Hopefully by round 8 it settles back to normal as some of these frees to forwards are beyond ridiculous.
