Now we can figure out just who those uber-valuable stars are, thanks to numbers from Champion Data.

Below is a list of every club’s 10 most valuable players. To clarify - it’s not a list of the best players, but those who’ve been the most valuable over the last 40 games. Not in a financial sense, but on the field.

So if a player had a long-term injury over that period, or played but was impacted by an injury, they’re likely to be lower than you’d expect. Also, Round 1 of 2020 is not included in the numbers.

RICHMOND

1 - Dustin Martin

2 - Dion Prestia

3 - Shane Edwards

4 - Nick Vlastuin

5 - Kane Lambert

6 - Trent Cotchin

7 - Alex Rance

8 - Jack Riewoldt

9 - Dylan Grimes

10 - Bachar Houli

The top ten here is about what you’d expect - with one notable exception - but the order isn’t, with the now-retired Alex Rance only seventh, Jack Riewoldt in eighth and All-Australian defender Bachar Houli tenth. It’s almost as if the Tigers have a really deep list. That notable exception we mentioned is Tom Lynch, who only ranks 14th, but that’s because of his injury-impacted 2018 season and slow start to 2019.
