Once again the MRO judging an incident on the injury outcome rather than the act itself. Burgoyne is lucky Dangerfield got up and played on. Another player could do the exact same sling tackle next week but if it results in a concussion then they'll get suspended. There would also be a "good bloke/champion" factor like Ablett getting off last year.

The AFL has today changed the 'dangerous tackle' rules. So Burgoyne would've got a week if they were in place last Friday night.

Hawthorn are expected to regain gun midfielder Jaeger O'Meara for Thursday night's game against 2019 premiers Richmond, as the club seeks to atone for a performance they feel was out of character.

Richmond vs Hawthorn

Round 3 kicks off with what threatens to be a one-sided clash when Richmond faces Hawthorn at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Tigers will be filthy for falling behind early against Collingwood in Round 2, conceding four goals in the first quarter while failing to score one themselves.

They were left to play catch-up for the rest of the evening, and eventually forced a 5.6 (36)-all draw – the teams’ first drawn match against each other in over 100 years and the lowest-scoring AFL men’s match since 1999.

Still, it was enough for the Tigers to stretch their undefeated run past twelve months, the club’s most recent defeat being against the Adelaide Crows at the Oval on June 13 last year.

On Thursday night they’ll start hot favourites to defeat a Hawthorn side that was nothing but insipid in its 61-point loss to the Geelong Cats at GMHBA Stadium last Friday night.

The Hawks were put on the back foot early, and while they managed to at one point claim the lead in the second quarter and were only behind by six points at halftime, collapsed in a dismal second half to lose by ten goals in their first appearance at Kardinia Park since 2006.

Coach Alastair Clarkson labelled his side as “fourth-rate” and it has all but become clear that the club has become a shadow of the team that was the most dominant side of the past decade, in which they won three flags from four grand final appearances.

Veteran Shaun Burgoyne should consider himself lucky to play given he escaped with only a fine for his dangerous tackle on 250-gamer Patrick Dangerfield.

Recent history is against the Hawks, who have lost their past four against the Tigers dating back to late-2017. That said, the Tigers should unleash their frustration on them after being denied a 14th consecutive victory by way of a draw against the Pies.

Prediction: Richmond by 30 points.

View from the opposition:

The strength of the Tigers... and where we could get 'em!

There's no shying away from it, the task confronting Hawthorn on Thursday night is one of the toughest assignments in football at the moment.

Taking on Richmond at the MCG, a venue which has become a fortress for Damien Hardwick's side throughout its current dynasty.

But what makes the Tigers so great? What has helped them win two of the last three premierships? What are their key strengths?

The Tigers are tenacious, that is their brand.

They chase, harass and run, both with the ball and without it.

They have recorded more tackles than their opponents in 19 of their last 27 outings, despite losing just six of these games.

Their running power is also overwhelming, winning the running bounces count in all bar four of these matches.

This pressure helps them kick winning scores - they've lost just 18 of their past 76 games.

But there is a chink in their armour that might take you by surprise.

Richmond won the clearance count just five times across 25 games in the 2019 premiership year.

And, with Dustin Martin out of the Round 3 clash, that presents a further opportunity for the Hawks to hone in on this area.

Martin is the Tigers' number one inside 50 deliverer, and ranked in the top two for clearances, contested possessions and goals for the club in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Hawks will regain Jaeger O'Meara to its midfield stocks, a man that himself ranked in his side's top two for disposals, clearances, tackles and contested possessions last year.

The midfield battle is always an important factor in football games but it seems it will be a deciding factor on Thursday night.

So they really do not know anything about us.

We lose the clearance and we set up a kick away to force the turnover. Money for jam

Got to be switched on right from go as hawks will come out after last weeks disappointment.Take the game on and play it on our terms and use our speed to open them up.Focus on better forward delivery to.No exuses without Martin. I think we will better of after last week's run.

Bolton a poor set shot. Almost as bad as George.

Razor pays them a free directily in front. It was there technically but let's see if Lynch and Jack get the same.

A couple of ordinary contests by Stack. Coughed up the ball off a bump at HB and then got outpositioned by Wingard.
