It was the end of an era of sorts with Jack Riewoldt and Trent Cotchin hanging up the boots, not to mention the exit of Damien Hardwick. Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper likely thought the club was in the window when they joined up but now will form the nucleus of a side that will have to regenerate. It’ll be nigh-on impossible to replicate the feats of the club’s premiership dynasty, but bringing through more youngsters while still maximising the best remaining years of Dustin Martin, Tom Lynch, Dylan Grimes and the like is a tricky balancing act to perform. How well Adem Yze is able to do that remains to be seen, but he would take confidence from the way Adam Kingsley has done similar in his first year at Greater Western Sydney.
