Tom Browne on 7news just now said the Bulldogs and us are working behind the scenes over bunching some of our 2nd/3rd round picks in exchange for their first round pick #17.
The Dogs need the draft points for Sam Darcy and we now have them to spare with 5 picks in the 2nd/3rd rounds.
Mmmmm would like to see us bunch those picks to move a bit higher than 17 in the draft.
I'm presuming we will try to do this in steps.
Dogs need at most 2000 points if they cop an early bid for Sam Darcy at pick 2 (2517 minus 20% discount).
Our picks are worth:
Pick 7 1644 points
Pick 15 1112
Pick 26 729
Pick 28 677
Pick 38 465
Pick 41 412
Pick 46 331
26+38+41+46 = 729+465+412+331 = 1937
26+28+41+46 = 729+677+412+331 = 2149
15+38+46 = 1112+677+331 = 2120 .... doubt we'll include pick 15 as we want to move up the draft so this is unlikely.
Dogs' first rounder pick 17 is worth 1025 points. So we would need the Dogs first #17 plus a late first or early 2nd in return to match the points. Probably their future first as they have no other valuable picks this year after their first.
There should be extra options as well depending on what happens with CCJ and Lipinski trades. Say we get the media option of North's pick 39 (+ Tarrant?) for CCJ then:
26+38+39+46 = 729+465+446+331 = 1971
26+38+39+41 = 729+465+446+412 = 2052.
The latter would leave us with picks 7, 15, 17, 28, 46 plus say a future (Dogs) first round pick.
Once the above is achieved then the next job would be trying to put them together to convince either GWS, Suns or Adelaide to trade their first pick inside the top 4. GWS apparently want to draft Mac Andrew so they could get him at our pick 7 while giving us pick 2. We'd throw in another pick to even out the points.
