While the Prez said the decision will be made by the footy dept., he doesn't believe there will be wholesale changes regarding the team around Yze.

That will be disappointing and to conservative by the club.

But what if it's what Yze wants. Remembering thwt we bought in 2 new coaches this year. Are you suggesting they go too?

From the outside it has an 'old boys club' feel, Morris Maric Lambert, Newman
Not saying they aren't the right people for the job or that it's wrong, maybe everything looks wrong when you can't win a game

Morris is doing a pretty good job with the VFL team,  Lambert has just started his journey as a development/assistant coach & Newman was with Hawks for 8? years. There'll be a new assistant coach appointed, possibly 2 depending what Yze wants. It's pretty much his call now.

I imagine there'll be a refreshing of quite a few areas in the club.    Just as there should be.

No Newman and Ziebell stay Yze got them in. First off he needs better support the club has left him to the wolves. Get him a senior assistant.  Teague leaving asap says something wasn't right there either.

Season of change at Tigerland

The changes have come thick and fast at Richmond since the end of the 2024 season.

“We went through a lot last year. With all the things that we were going through, for a first-time coach, it was great learning for me,” Yze said.

“This year our list dynamic changed, so we sat down as a collective – Tim Livingstone, Blair Hartley and Shane Dunne – and we created a plan.

“We’ve gone from a pretty experienced list to an inexperienced list. Things need to change for that . . .

“It doesn’t change our expectation on win-loss, but what it does do is we go into more of a development program.

“We’ve got a lot of young players that need upskilling . . .

“We’ve shifted a couple of our coaches around. For instance, Ben Rutten, rather than doing a line, he’s overseeing our coaches, making sure that we’re educating the right way . . . making sure what we’re making every minute matter in our coaching, in our development and education.

“So, he’s overseeing that, and it helps me. We’ve got another set of eyes for our coaches, so we can upskill them.

“And then Jack Ziebell, who was a stoppage coach last year. He was full-time in the AFL program, but right now we see more benefit for him to be in the development room. We’ve got 24-25 really young players that need that time . . .

“Blake Caracella’s come in. He’ll look after stoppages, and we’ve got a couple of analysts that will help him with that.

“But we just see the benefit is going to be around our development and how fast we can fast-track the development of these boys.”

Steve Morris’ promotion from the Club’s VFL coach (replaced by former player Jake Batchelor) to an AFL assistant coach, along with the arrival of well-regarded High Performance Manager Ben Serpell from Geelong, were other key off-field appointments at Punt Road.

Yze declared that Morris had been ready to assume an assistant coaching role for a couple of years and thoroughly deserved his opportunity.

“He’s been a great VFL coach, running his own program, transferring our message from the senior program and the same game styles,” Yze said.

“Last year we went through a lot of adversity in the senior team and our VFL program then got impacted by that.

“But if you were a supporter and going and watching our games at Punt Road at VFL level, they looked like they were playing a Richmond brand of footy, which is really impressive for a young coach.”

Batchelor and Lonergan to step into AFL line roles

Jake Batchelor and Sam Lonergan will step into new AFL coaching positions for the 2026 season.

Richmond’s 2025 VFL senior coach Jake Batchelor and Head of Development Sam Lonergan will step into AFL line coaching roles for the 2026 season.

Batchelor, who will take over as the Backs/Defence line coach, has been a senior coach at VFL level for the past five seasons, having returned to Richmond after previously spending four years coaching Sandringham.

The 33-year-old led Richmond to a Wildcard Finals victory and appearance in the final eight of the VFL competition this season.

Batchelor stood out in an extensive interview process, impressing with his plans for the AFL backs and drive to make an immediate impact.

Richmond Executive General Manager Football Performance, Tim Livingstone, said that Batchelor would bring great energy to the role.

“Jake did a wonderful job with our VFL program this year, and we have full confidence in his ability to step into the AFL line coaching role for 2026,” he said.

Lonergan will further boost the AFL assistant coaching panel in a new role where he will work closely with the midfield group, specialising in stoppages.

A former TSL and SANFL senior coach, Lonergan has been a part of Richmond’s coaching staff for the past six years.

“Sam has been terrific working closely with our young players as Head of Development, and his knowledge and experience will now be important for our AFL midfielders and stoppage work,” Livingstone said.

“We are looking forward to seeing Jake and Sam continue to flourish in their new roles and for it to improve us as a team.”

Richmond will announce its new VFL senior coach and further additions to its development coaching set-up in due course.

No issue with it myself

Makes sense to have 2 blokes who have worked so closely with our young crop moving to along with them to continue with their development

What will be interesting is who gets the VFL gig and who else we bring in. Article suggests more than one coming in. Thanks goodness for the soft cap increase  ;) ;D
