If it's left to next year when Green is a free agent what would GWS receive as compo? That may determine if GWS is willing to trade him this year as a pre-agent. If they can get more from him this year then they may be willing to let him go if they think he will leave anyway as a free agent.

Don't think he's a RFA for a while?

Straight swap for Dusty?

Once the one eyed supporters take their glasses off it's probably a reasonable deal.

Dusty has 2 years to go on $1mil or more and hasn't looked all that amazing.

Yeah I’ll be keeping my glasses on thanks.

Imagine begrudging people for not wanting to see one of if not the greatest tiger of them all play for another club just to ever so slightly fast forward a rebuild by getting one player in return.

Just some of his accomplishments since his supposed decline since 2017:
2018: All-Australian Centre, 6th in Brownlow (1st out of RFC players), 3rd in BnF, 3rd leading goal kicker.
2019: Premiership, Norm Smith Medal, Gary Ayres Medal, All-Australian Squad, 6th in Brownlow (1st out of RFC players), 6th in BnF, 2nd leading goal kicker.
2020: Premiership, Norm Smith Medal, Gary Ayres Medal, All-Australian Fwd Pocket, 5th in Brownlow (1st out of RFC players), 2nd in BnF, 3rd leading goal kicker.
2021 (missed more than 1/4 of season): 25th in brownlow medal (1st for RFC players), 5th in BnF, 4th leading goal kicker.

The way I see it he could never play another game again and the salary we pay him wouldn’t even scratch the surface of paying back the services he’s provided for the club.

I think you misunderstood me - I'm not begrudging anyone for anything.

The rumours of him moving to Sydney have been swirling and as I said in the Dusty thread given the media crap he gets here could you blame him for wanting a quieter life outside the fishbowl?

If he wanted to go, and this trade was on the table, I would consider it also because from a business perspective he has peaked and is on major coin - hence it would probably facilitate a rebuild of sorts. Hard to see that when you think like a fan is what I'm saying.

Maybe I have misunderstood. Just seems like some of the comments on here on a few threads (may be from other posters) have been implying we should be packing his bags for him and shipping him off.

Of course if he wanted to move then that’s a different matter entirely. I don’t really buy it personally. Earlier in his career the move to nsw made sense as his dad was living up there. Whereas now the vast majority of his friends and family would be in VIC I would have thought.

I think you're right.

Only thing that would appeal to him is the quiet life, but if he'd had a gut full I reckon he would just retire rather than request a trade.

I don’t think he’s going. Other than the fact Dusty is Richmond through and through, the yellow and black #4 is a brand in itself. His off field earnings (and Ralph’s cut) would probably take a massive hit if he played for a different club

Doh! My bad. Keep forgetting how young he is :doh

Oh well, if he doesn't leave now we've got the next 5 years to rebuild and then pick him up as a RFA when we're back challenging again.

I think what worked in franklin’s favour is he was still sub 200 games when he left so he still had it in him to add to the highlight reel. But I do see you it point. Even if we say look at someone like brereton who tried to keep going with Sydney and collingwood, he’s still heralded for his hawthorn innings.

Going nowhere: Giants lock in midfield bull on long-term deal

By Riley Beveridge - Just now

GREATER Western Sydney has secured a significant statement to kickstart the Adam Kingsley era, with gun midfielder Tom Green signing a fresh four-year contract extension on Friday.

Green has emerged as one of the side's most important players this pre-season, stepping seamlessly into the midfield vacancy created by last October's departure of Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper.

The club has subsequently moved early to ensure Green's future in New South Wales, landing the supremely talented 22-year-old on a long-term deal that will see him remain at the Giants until at least 2027 and taking him through to his free agency year.
