Have to say I'm really starting to feel for this kid.

Not convinced he's been played in the right position

In the VFL he plays mid

In AFL it's HF

His kicking (taking out set shots for goal ;D) is elite compared to some of his team mates

Would like to see him in the middle a bit more, as the outside clearance go to player

100% this

Played out of position for sure. Not a crumbling fwd. Def outside mid. Needs to put head over the ball a bit more when he has the chance

If I could ask our footy dept. one question at this stage of the season, it would be why haven’t they tried Tyler Sonsie in the midfield more? Had a very strong preseason, has racked up the ball in the VFL but they continue to play him fwd.

Not saying it’s wrong but am curious.

Could be right there Knighter but why die wondering. Play him for the next 4 games as a mid or even give him Shortsteps role where it seems you are not expected to cop contact.

Would much rather see the ball in Sonsies hands than the panic merchant.

Just found out an old colleague of mine, footy mad, is first cousin to this bloke.

Moving in with Nick Watson from Hawks.

Asked him if Sonsie thinks he's played out of position in AFL - absolutely 100% he says. Midfield in the VFL, HFF in the AFL, annoyed about it.

But think he's going to be getting more midfield time in '25.

Told him the fans think he needs to harden up a bit. So I suggested he puts weight on and whacks a few blokes haha.

How could this be happening, surely these things should be worked out in the 4 walls.
Sounds like no communication etc
Cluster something

How could what be happening?

A player feels like they aren't played to their strengths and tells someone know about it?

I'm ok with Sonz hardening up a bit & whacking a few blokes ... as long as he starts by whacking Nick Watson ...    :clapping

Can say from what I’ve seen and heard, Tyler Sonsie has added size and has become more lean.

Also found a lot of the ball as an inside midfielder in multiple match sim based drills.

Great signs for him, as it’s his make or break season.

As a junior Sonsie had the ability to create his own space in congestion. Find a gap either to dispose cleanly or break away. I believe it's his confidence holding him back. He needs to be played in the guts to finally click.

I definitely also think he’s the player that’ll thrive of momentum.

If he has a great play early on and the crowd get behind him early. It’ll only fill his confidence tank up.
