Judson Clarke to make senior debut

By Richmond Media - Just now

Judson Clarke will make his senior debut in Thursday night's Round 13 match against Port Adelaide at the MCG.

The 18-year-old high half-forward/midfielder was taken with Richmond's fifth pick - 30th overall - in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft from Yarra Valley Grammar via the Dandenong Stingrays.

The left-footed Clarke has shone recently at reserve level with his disposal linking midfield and attack drawing praise from Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris.

"His ball-use just stands out at this level and he continues to play his role diligently which holds him in good stead going forward," Morris said of Clarke following Richmond VFL's close loss to Sydney before the bye.

Clarke has averaged 14.3 disposals per game across nine VFL matches in 2022, and booted 11 goals, including a season-high haul of four against Footscray in Round 3.

No doubt Juddy has natural talent as well as speed to burn but I'm surprised he's got a senior game. He's still light on size wise and inconsistent and can have games even in the VFL where he hardly touches the ball. It's a big call by Dimma and the MC especially if he replaces Maurice. He will either hardly touch it tomorrow night and have people questioning his selection or he'll kick 3 goals with the commentators raving about him and he'll win the rising star nomination for the week.

Imagine if he gets the Rising Star nomination in his first game meaning Gibcus misses out again

10min and he's already our second best small forward after Bolton.

George won't be getting back in next week already.

Beautiful kick, had a crack and didn’t shirk in the contest. Can’t ask for much more from a 1st gamer.

Great first game. Will work well with MRJ. How much longer is Georgia contracted for?
