In defence, Mansell really played well all game and was rock solid in defence all day probably out best player all game. I’d really to see Mansell get another gig at AFL level.
I thought Banks looked ok and composed too.
Nyuon was ok but had a couple of brain fades turning the ball over at couple of times.
Martyn was very disappointing and turned it over quite a bit and got beaten one on one a few times.

Soldo dominated ruck all game but I think he needs to work more on his tapping to advantage. No use winning the tap if it’s not going to anyone.
Aarts showed why he is way above this level played in the guts and did a very good job in there his pressure was elite and clearance work was very good.
Sonsie has a lesson today playing on Hayes so didn’t have such a great game but I’m sure learnt a lot.
Good to see MRJ get some minutes at the centre bounces and did very well when given the opportunity because he creates mayhem with his pressure too.
Stack had his best game this year and also took some centre bounces but both boys were excellent with their forward pressure the whole game. Stack getting some reward on the score board for his hard work especially off ball.
Lambert was solid for the minutes he played and looked to be cruising.
Clarke is a live wire up forward and his an opportunist

I’m not convinced by Samson as a ruckman but he’s pretty young I guess and he’s still learning.

RCD had his best game of the year. Was involved in the contest his pressure was very good and his hands under pressure was elite. I also think he should kick it more especially inside 50 because he makes good decisions under pressure. If he continues to play to this level I’m sure an AFL game isn’t far away.

Good summary, Tigeritis.

It's hard for Mansell to get into the seniors as small rebounding defenders is the one area we have a surplus of despite deficits virtually everywhere else.

So how would Aarts go in the guts at AFL level? Have we ever played him there??

Aarts is an in-betweener. Always in the bests at VFL level but his limited skills and decision making are not AFL standard.

Yes, round 1, round 2 and round 3

Was a turn over king = liability.

The VFL isn’t as fast so players like Aarts will shine when playing in there.
That’s why it’s so important players aren’t prone to panic when the heat is on. One of the first things I look for in a newbie is how composed and calm he is under pressure. In my opinion it’s these panic merchants are normally the ones that don’t make it at AFL level.

Of coarse there’s always exceptions to that rule.

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Sunday's win over Carlton at Ikon Park.

Jake Aarts (32 disposals, 10 tackles, seven clearances, one goal)

"'Aartsy' was brilliant on the weekend. He tackled hard, won the ball for us, and put great pressure on the opposition in a very well-rounded game."

Kane Lambert (25 disposals, six marks, two goals)

"Kane had another great game. He found plenty of the footy and played his role to perfection in another step forward for him."

Riley Collier-Dawkins (25 disposals, four tackles, four clearances)

"It was a real step forward for Riley in terms of his hunt for the footy. He's based his game heavily on defence lately, but it was good to see him get a lot more offensively involved."

Rhyan Mansell (25 disposals, 11 marks, four inside-50s)

"Rhyan had a sensational game across half-back. In particular, his last quarter was outstanding with five marks from opposition possession. He attacked the ball and man hard all day."

Will Martyn (24 disposals, eight marks, six rebound-50s)

"It was great reward for Will to get more involved on offence on the weekend. He will take some great learnings out of the game in his transition to half-back."

Sydney Stack (23 disposals, six marks, three goals)

"Sydney was great in offence and defence on the weekend. He hunted the ball and had one particular contest in the centre of the ground which stood out, but he also impacted on the scoreboard as well."

Sam Banks (22 disposals, nine marks, six rebound-50s)

"He's progressing really nicely. He really works hard and the bigger ground at Carlton certainly suited him. It was great to see him not only get involved offensively but get down back and help out our back six as well.

Maurice Rioli Jnr (21 disposals, seven tackles, four clearances)

"He's in sensational form at the moment. Once again, his tackle pressure was second to none and he's improving at his centre bounce work which is also great to see and exciting for Tigers supporters."

Tyler Sonsie (18 disposals, four clearances, four inside-50s)

"He was a little quieter on the weekend. He still had an influence on the game but probably lacked a little engagement at stoppage, which is when he plays his best footy."

Ivan Soldo (16 disposals, 41 hit-outs, five tackles, two goals)

"Ivan was really pivotal for us. He attacks the ruck contest and helped us get dominance around the footy. He finished with two goals but could have easily kicked four or five."

Judson Clarke (16 disposals, three inside-50s, two goals)

"Judson played his role well. He is positioning himself really well and had a couple of classy finishes on the day also."

Bigoa Nyuon (11 disposals, seven marks, two tackles)

"'Biggie' had another solid game. He got involved offensively and his spread and run to create is something that really stands out, as well as a couple of really desperate efforts in defence."

Samson Ryan (10 disposals, 14 hit-outs, two goals)

"He is really close to having a breakout game. He's doing a great job for a young player competing against two and three in the air at times and bringing the ball to ground. Hopefully, a few more of his marks stick in the coming weeks."

Josh Caddy (one disposal, one tackle)

"Was injured in the first quarter but was absolutely fantastic on the bench coaching our young forwards throughout the day, which was really pleasing to see."
