I was wrecked from work and slept most afternoon. Geez how did we win? How was dusty’s return? Can I get The forum summary of tthe game as opposed to a dodgy AFL.com report which is just half arsed narratives revolving around stats please?
Positives:- Thought it was our best game of the year in terms of gamestyle. We were on top in general play for most of the match and should have won by 10+ goals.
- Forward half pressure (thanks mostly to Maurice).
- Our transition from defence to attack was very good today.
- Lynch is in awesome form (minus the early game yips).
- Cotch was brilliant today in traffic. Clean as and his vision to spot an open teammate was spot on.
Negatives:- Centre clearances. Should have won this easily given the hugely lop-sided hitout count but our post-clearance work still isn't up to scratch and the Pies were a lot cleaner with their exits and we gave up soft goals.
- Still too many unforced schoolboy U10s errors that cost us soft goals and kept the Pies in the game. Fumbling at crucial moments, getting first hands only to cough it up, sloppy disposal under no physical pressure and missed gettable set shots. It's why we didn't win by 10+ goals when we should have. It was frustrating to see us do the hard stuff well while screwing up straightforward elements. It's why we've fallen back to being a middle of the road side.
ps. Dusty was solid IMV. As a first game back after missing 6 weeks his output stats were better than expected. He was bit rusty at times though where his decision making was off (I can recall 3 turnovers). He'll be better for the run. Credit to Jack for dishing one off to Dusty. That goal boosted Dusty's confidence. Dusty was much more influential after that goal.
