Richmond (8 )

Nathan Broad, Jason Castagna, Trent Cotchin^, Dylan Grimes^, Kamdyn McIntosh^, Bigoa Nyuon*, Jack Riewoldt^, Robbie Tarrant^

Broad inked a one-year extension in August to bring him through to free agency, and the dependable defender will have options despite preparing to turn 30 in a matter of months. Remember Gold Coast’s interest in him? Cotchin, Riewoldt and ex-Roo Tarrant could all be entering their last year at AFL level. Grimes is co-captain these days and extra important with more youth filtering into the backline. Role players Castagna and McIntosh need good years, while Nyuon will hope to build on his senior debut.

Cotch, Riewoldt and Tarrant aren’t going anywhere else. Will all be their last years you’d think but if they manage to pull out ripper seasons and they do wanna go again you can just pull out a 1 year extension at seasons end.

Grimes may decide to hang ‘em up too if he has another injury plagued season otherwise again a player going nowhere who can get a 1 year extension at the back end of the season.

Would give Broad a 2 year extension. Had a ripping season last year and has gotten better each year. Would consider pushing out to a 3 year deal if need be to retain him. He’d be 32 at the end of that so no big deal.

Kmac is a good honest foot soldier. Had a good season last but I’m honestly hoping one of the cubs goes past him and takes his spot in the best 22. Even so I’d still expect him to get extended as the coaches can throw him in at any time and depend on him to do a job. Also much loved at the club it seems. Still I wouldn’t go anymore than a 2 year deal. If he gets offered more from elsewhere and wants to take it then I’d wish him all the best.

Castgna and Biggy are playing for their Richmond/afl life’s.

Your AFL team’s free agency priority for 2023

Which big name does your club need to lock away before they hit the market next year?

Richmond - Nathan Broad

Broad perhaps isn't the headlining name on the list below, but the Tigers' reliance on the key backman has him at No.1 among their free agents.

Veteran pair Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt are likely to retire at the end of 2023, while Dylan Grimes looks more than settled at Punt Road as he moves through the twilight of his career.

A Western Australian, Broad is another name on our list that may gain interest from elsewhere.

The Tigers' list of free agents includes premiership players Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt, Dylan Grimes, Nathan Broad, Jason Castagna and Kamdyn McIntosh, while Robbie Tarrant will also be a free agent again under the 'free agent for life' rule having qualified for free agency at North Melbourne before his switch to Punt Road.

Broad would be the only one I’d be resigning ASAP.

Cotch, Jack and Tarrant are done at the end of the year you’d think barring some crazy form this season.

Grimes will get a 1-2 year extension at some point during the season as long as his body doesn’t fail him.

Castagna and Nyuon are playing for the footy lives both with us and the league in general.

Kmac would be the only one where I’d say there’d be interest from a few clubs and he’s still (barely) on the right side of 30. Reckon we’ll resign him for another 2 years.

I think Broad might have a trigger clause in his current contract (will stand corrected if I've got that wrong)

Nathan Broad is among the most underrated players in the AFL. Could he be a free agency target at the right price?
