Tambling for sure for me.  Watched his first pre season game against Pies live and thought wow, he is going to be a freak.
He wasn't......

I did have faith in Tambo for a long time. Glad he never played against us at the G to be honest, poor bloke would have got booed out of the building by some ferals
I work in Africa and they were taking the pee out of me for saving Africa.......

The tagging role saved Raines' career. Made a good go of it at Brisbane and got to punch Joel Selwood. Never tagged for us but did show some dash off half back. Did struggle for form post 2007 with us

Didn’t he tag ricciuto in that infamous game against the crows where we just played keepings off for 4 quarters? Lol

Haha I can't remember much from that game apart from the Bowdens kicking the ball to each other 619 times

Going back a fair while but I thought Craig Smith was going to be a gun in senior footy. He starred at U19s level.

I don't remember either, but going by the stats, Raines had 20 possies (19 uncontested). It might have been Daniel Jackson who tagged?

from word go not many at all.
Expectations have always been tempered. Anyway i think the elite tag is well and truly overused these days.
Plenty have one maybe two elite traits but fall away in many other areas.
My angst with our supporters is they tend to put on pedestals players who dont have one elite trait.

Back in the 90s I thought Steven Jurica was going to be the next Tony Locket .

I alway thought that Tambling would come good - he never did

Conca was also a disappointment in the end .

Griffiths was also meant to be our forward line saviour

Polo and Raines are also notable mentions .

Remember Matthew Manfield? Thought he was going to be the next Kouta  ::)
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Dan Foley (#37) kicking 5 goals in a half against Essendon at Windy Hill in 1983.
