Champion Data analysis of Richmond so far in 2023
« on: March 29, 2023, 01:11:29 AM »
Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data was on SEN last night discussing Richmond.

While he thinks we'll lose to Collingwood this week, he was positive and optimistic about our chances for the remainder of the year.

* We're #1 in the AFL for winning the ball back in the forward half of the ground. So, we're playing the Richmond brand.

* #16 for converting these into scores though. Hoyne, however, wasn't worried as he believes this will improve as the season goes along.

* #4 for time in forward half. Hoyne added that all the premiers over the past decade have been top 6 in this category.

* #17 for scoring when we go into forward 50. Hoyne said historically we've been good in this area so he also believes this part of our game will come good in time.

* Hoyne said, importantly for us, we've gone from last year being the 8th easiest to score against from a chain of possession to being the 6th hardest to score against this year.

* Hoyne believes we are doing a lot of things right. We've changed up our personnel. We've made shifts in what we're doing from a clearance perspective. Hoyne said we'll improve as the season goes along which is exactly what you want to happen and what we've done in the past when we had success between 2017-2020.
