That’s a little harsh. He probably went in to spoil or at least create a contest. It’s not all about taking a mark.

Lynch to face tribunal

richmondfc.com.au
9 April 2023

Richmond forward Tom Lynch will front the AFL Tribunal this week following a collision in a marking contest during yesterday's loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Lynch was cited for contact with Alex Keath in the opening term of Saturday’s five-point loss, which saw the Bulldog defender subbed out of the match.

Lynch has been charged with rough conduct (first offence) following the Match Review Officer's review of the game.

The offence has been graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

Lynch should turn up and tell them all to stuff off

Players have a duty of care to themselves as well. If you put yourself in a stupid dangerous situation where you are likely to get cleaned up then don't blame an opponent who collides heavily with you.

The above reverse angle vision shows Keath putting himself dangerously in no-man's land in front of the oncoming pack with no chance of getting to the ball. The fact he tries all too late to bail out and takes his eyes off the ball shows he has totally misjudged the flight of the ball. No way could Lynch have avoided him and no way is the collision Lynch's fault. In fact, bracing for the collision probably saved Keath from broken ribs or a lost kidney if Lynch has gone with his knees up for the mark.

If Dangerfield had nothing to answer for despite Vlastuin being knocked out with a raised arm because both players were running in opposite directions in the 2020 GF, then so should Lynch here. You can't have different rules for different players because one is the AFL and media's darling and the other is the AFL and media's constant whipping boy.

Firstly, I got it wrong re Jones pushing. There was incident prior that Jones gave a little push

On to this farcical situation

You've hit the nail on the proverbial head MT

If Lynch doesn't brace the damage to Keath would have been a helluva lot worse. That not one Bulldogs player remonstrated shows they didn't think it was malicious but just a footy accident

The AFL needs to stop worrying about the media and its need for a headline and witch-hunts and actually understand that it is still (for now) a contact sport and accident will happen.

Couldn't agree more MT and WP.

I'm concerned that the AFL wont.

Got those keen to assess the Lynch report through still photos, what is Keath looking at here, assuming he’s running in to mark a ball that at this time is 45degrees up and to his left?

Keath was trying to block Lynch IMO.

That much is clear.

Lynch probably realised he was out of position for the ball drop and just braced for the usual BS he cops every stuffing contest.

You are having a laugh surely?

Lynch got run under the contest then he saw Keith flying in from a dangerous angle (despite Keith having no real prospect of marking) and so Lynch braced himself.

It wasn’t even worth a free kick.

Not sure if it has been said but if he does not Brace he also leaves himself open to injury in that circumstance. You are allowed to protect yourself aren't ya.

I did say that as did MT

Lynch doesn't brace and the damage to Keath would have been so much worse

By bracing he has actually mitigated the damage to Keath

Keath is so out of position here it's not remotely funny. He has misjudged the flight of the ball and is not actively competing for it. Sure, players have a duty of care for other players on the field, but what about Keath's duty of care to himself? Does he walk in front of speeding traffic without looking and expect drivers who hit him to be held accountable?

Has the umpire made A Bad decision? twitter account:

I think the  umpire got this right.

Lynch is attempting to contest and braces himself last second seeing oncoming contact.

No free kick applicable.

Not commenting re tribunal....that's for @AFLTribunalexpl
