Recent efforts are ones we haven't seen from the Socceroos since the bad old days of the NSL
. This morning was a game that gets a coach sacked. We look very slow, lacked cohesion and we lobbed lots of old school long balls that are easy to defend against in the modern game. We are also struggling to score which keeps the opposition in games and makes us prone to losing from a sucker punch counterattack goal. It was actually the older blokes who were most disappointing this morning. Age has caught up with them. Cahill sadly is shadow of his old self. The only Aussie that looked dangerous was Robbie Kruse down the attacking left side.
The next game against Iraq is massive. Another loss could pretty much end any real chance of qualifying as the only direct qualifying spot left is 2nd place in group with Japan having top spot pretty much sewn up. Finishing 3rd in the group would mean we would eventually have to play a South American country in a home/away play-off like the old days which on current form we'd definitely lose.
