Socceroos beaten 1-2 by Jordan  :P. A soft (dodgy) penalty to them following by the Aussies being caught on the counter while pushing for the equalizer. Archie got the consolation goal with 5 mins to go.

Group B table

               Pl   Pts    F/A
Japan       4   10    11-1 (+10)
Jordan     3     4      3-8  (-5)
Australia  3     2      2-3  (-1)
Iraq         3     2      2-3 (-1)
Oman      3     2      1-4  (-3)

Socceroos are next away to Iraq in Doha (Qatar) on Oct 16.

Recent efforts are ones we haven't seen from the Socceroos since the bad old days of the NSL :yep. This morning was a game that gets a coach sacked. We look very slow, lacked cohesion and we lobbed lots of old school long balls that are easy to defend against in the modern game. We are also struggling to score which keeps the opposition in games and makes us prone to losing from a sucker punch counterattack goal.  It was actually the older blokes who were most disappointing this morning. Age has caught up with them. Cahill sadly is shadow of his old self. The only Aussie that looked dangerous was Robbie Kruse down the attacking left side.

The next game against Iraq is massive. Another loss could pretty much end any real chance of qualifying as the only direct qualifying spot left is 2nd place in group with Japan having top spot pretty much sewn up. Finishing 3rd in the group would mean we would eventually have to play a South American country in a home/away play-off like the old days which on current form we'd definitely lose.

Transition phase and nobody of any real quality coming through atm.

We can't live on the 2006 campaign for ever.

Socceroos will be lucky to make the World Cup. Iraq has been their bogie team.

Will be a real uphill struggle for automatic qualification given they still have to travel to Japan.

I think well still qualify (just) as from memory we have mainly home games now. But with the current quality of players we have are likely to get our throats cut at the World Cup.

Check the clip out on the website

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/more-sport/grenade-explodes-on-soccer-pitch/story-e6frfglf-1226478677318

Riots with flairs and fireworks aren't unusual at a soccer match, but what happens in the video above takes hooliganism to a whole new level.

The explosive detonated during a peaceful Asian Champions League game between Iran team Sepahan and Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli.

A Sepahan midfielder can be seen picking up the explosive and then throws it to the sideline. The moment it hits the ground it explodes causing players to retreat to the middle of the pitch while smoke rises from the ground.

A(nother) poor game from the Socceroos saved by the last 10 minutes get out of jail effort. Luckily Iraq were/are terrible. Only Cahill and Kruse looked a class above while Oar and Archie did their bit as late subs. Anyway the win should see the Socceroos eventually qualify directly in 2nd spot in our group as we have 3 of the last 4 qualifiers at home.

Group B table

Jordan     4     4      4-10  (-6)
Iraq         4     2      3-5 (-2)

bit early i know but is anyone heading over to Brazil?

Last chance for me until i extend the family further, and lets face it who wants to go to russia or the middle east WCups.

Not a keen lover of Soccer but just wont have the same effect if Australia dont make it.

For guys in the know how many more matches left to play. I hear the Jordon game may clinch it.
