The draw for the 2020 Copa America has been released. Australia is one of the invitees.

The Socceroos are in Group A with Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile and our old archrival Uruguay. So it will be a good reality check.

17 June 2020             Paraguay vs Australia      Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, La Plata
22 June 2020             Australia vs Bolivia          Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, La Plata
26 June 2020             Australia vs Argentina      Estadio Monumental, Buenos Aires
30 June 2020             Chile vs Australia             Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, Córdoba

The Socceroos have moved up to 35th in the FIFA World Rankings after the latest edition was released on Thursday.

It is the Socceroos' highest ranking in 10 years, back when they were ranked 23rd in the world in 2011.

Well that story didn't last long.

FA CEO James Johnson says Australia is not bidding for the FIFA World Cup, but points to 2034 as next opening.

Socceroos make it 10 qualifier wins in a row.

1-0 win over Vietnam to stay top of Group B.

Australia       6
Saudi Arabia 6
Oman           3
Japan           3
Vietnam       0
China           0

Top 2 automatically qualify for the World Cup.
Third place to the play-offs (vs 3rd place Group A and then against a North American qualifier).

We've got Oman next up on October 7.

There's every chance of getting out of the group into the top 2. The opponents are not the strongest.

Blew a chance last night. Japan had been in ordinary form yet we didn't turn up to play especially early on minutes. Defensively we were off with a heap of schoolboy errors. Behich made two howlers that cost us both goals. Only positive was Hrustic's cracking free kick.

We now need to get points against Saudi Arabia (who are now on top of the group) to stay inside the top 2 ahead of Japan.

Geez that was a shocking performance from the Socceroos last night :facepalm.

Another one Arnie needs to own. The team was out of sync and we didn't have much idea in the final third. We didn't have a shot on target until the 2nd half. Playing a winger as a striker doesn't help. Too much a negative mindset once again and a lack of urgency in the first half. Lucky to not lose it in the last 20 minutes when we couldn't run out the game. We panicked and didn't control possession. Just kept coughing it up in our defensive half. Thank goodness for Matty Ryan. Sure it was very wet but that should've played to our advantage as the Saudis wouldn't have much experience playing in those conditions.

To top off a poor night, Souttar looks to have down his ACL  :(.
