SEN Mid Year Review - Club by Club
« on: June 08, 2006, 09:58:41 AM »
I didn't hear all the teams, because i had to start work - but here's a review of the teams I heard

Review of the four senior people at each club:  the President, the Coach, the CEO and Captain:

ADELAIDE
(Reviewer – Tim Watson)

President – Bill Sanders – been good 8
CEO - Stephen Trigg – been solid, articulate and measured – 8
Coach – Neil Craig – potential genius, market leader at the moment with the way the game is headed – 9
Captain – Mark Ricciuto – reinvented himself – become a good full forward – 7

Crows = 32 out of 40

BRISBANE
(Reviewer – Andrew Maher)

President – Tony Kelly  - 7
CEO – Michael Bowser - been solid, articulate and measured – 7
Coach – Leigh Matthews – outstanding – stuck by the kids  - reaping the benefits - 8
Captain – Michael Voss – good leader – 8

Brisbane – 30 out of 40

CARLTON
(Reviewer – Billy Brownless)

President – Graham Smorgon – new to the job, so hard to rate – 6
Michael Malouf – membership down 7,000 - 6
Denis Pagan – 4th years as coach, 76 games and won 20 – gotta play the kids - 5
Kouta – Struggling – need to look for a new captain - 5

Carlton – 22 out of 40

COLLINGWOOD
(Reviewer – Tim Watson)

President – Eddie McGuire – Expansive, accessible, missing in action a little bit this year - 6
CEO – Swan – picked up the slack – very good hands on CEO - 9
Coach – Mick Malthouse has been brilliant – controlled, sending all the right messages to the fans - 9
Captain – Nathan Buckley – been preserved this year, playing within himself – 7

Collingwood – 31 out of 40

ESSENDON
(Reviewer – Andrew Maher)
President – Neil McKissick – On the front foot when accused of being rotten head at the top of the fish.  Wobbled on jumper debate. 5 1/2
CEO – Peter Jackson – stoutly supported Sheeds – membership strong - 7
Sheeds – going well considering the side is performing as poorly as it is.  Made a blue with the basketball crap – pointed the finger at the wrong bloke - 5
Hille – done a good job – been hurt by playing a key position than playing in the ruck, but he’s made all the right noises – 6

Essendon – 23 ½

FREMANTLE
(Reviewer – Billy Brownless)

Rick Hart – doesn’t know much about him – membership very good.
Schwab – signed for three years, so must be going okay.
Connolly – needs to make the finals or trouble – been there for 5 years
Bell – needs to hurt the opposition a little bit more but been okay as a captain

Freo - 24 out of  40 (didn’t give a break-up)

GEELONG
(Reviewer – Tim Watson)

Frank Costa – been a bit fidgety, a little bit indecisive – early in the year he said
Bomber could be the coach for life – now will review position at the end of the year - 6
Cook – responsive, loyal to Thompson – rock solid - 8
Thompson – media wise, more friendly, accessible but results haven’t been on the board – been poor - 4
King – missing – 2

Geelong – 20

HAWTHORN
(Reviewer – Andrew Maher)

Kennett – views on everything, big black cross for questioning team’s effort, should not have got in a blue with Garry Lyon – hasn’t supported the coach - 5
Ian Robson – membership on slide - 6
Clarkson – flying early but hit with injury, stubborn with Zac Dawson – too many numbers back - 6
Vandenberg – continues to struggle for universal respect – doesn’t have cred outside of the club – 4 ½

Hawthorn – 21 ½

KANGAROOS
(Reviewer – Bill Brownless)

Duff – right man, well connected - 6
Walsh – likes him, trying his hardest and he’s feisty – three game away package, not sure where they’re going with that - 6
Laidley – Tried to lift his profile of him and his club but still needs to work on that – worried man and needs a big hug lol - 5
Simpson – very committed captain, give his all - 6

Kangaroos – 21 points

MELBOURNE
(Reviewer – Watson)

Gardiner – emerging as the number one president – he’s hands on, he’s productive - 8
Harris – still learning the job - 7
Daniher – contented, comfortable, amusing, deliberate – good leader - 8
Neitz – started season slowly but improving – popular – 6

Melbourne – 29 points out of 40

RICHMOND
(Reviewer Andrew Maher)

Gary March – new to job.  Made a lovely speech to the players in impromptu circumstances after Geelong game – did it beautifully.  He’s presented to the AFL on special redistribution fund reviews and he wants more games at the MCG – going nicely - 7
Wright – Membership up and worked on ground renovations - 7
Wallace – at this moment, coach of the year – stuck by the kids, going beautifully – massive improvement from many, many players.  Can play all sorts of different game styles - 9
Johnson – loves the way he goes about his business – sets a great standard apparently internally in terms of preparation on the track – missed three games which has hurt him and hasn’t been as good on the field – but sensible operator – 7

Richmond 30 out of 40

ST KILDA
(Reviewer – Brownless)
Butterrs – doing okay – 6
Jim??? - 6
Thomas – needs to make the finals this year - 5
Ball - under injury cloud – 6

Not sure about Terry being coach of the year but yep he's doing very well. The club is going along nicely but still along way to go to becoming the power we want to and should be on and off-field.

Not sure why Maher brought up Hawthorn's injuries as an excuse. We've 5-5 and we've had a shocking run this year so far with injuries.

Watson must miss Eddie being on  TFS and everywhere else every two seconds  ::). Eddie's lastest full of crap rant over the 'G is proof the less we hear from him about footy the better.

Why have Billy do these summaries when he doesn't even know/care who's who  ???. I can't stand Freo and Connolly as coach but as club they deserve more than 24/40.
