Liam Fawcett profile

Height: 197cm
Weight: 89kg
D.O.B: 22-04-2005
Club: Central District
Leagues: SANFL/AFL U18 Championships

STRENGTHS:

+ Marking
+ Mobility
+ Scoreboard impact
+ Strength

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Consistency
- Conversion

A strong marking key forward out of Central District, Liam Fawcett was earmarked early as a potential AFL Draft prospect after an impressive bottom-age campaign. He kicked 19 goals in 16 games, while averaging 11.6 disposals per match at SANFL Under 18s level. A fearsome aerial figure, Fawcett finished off the 2022 season strongly up forward, kicking 14 goals in the last five games.

Fast forward to 2023, and the Centrals tall truly cemented his place inside attacking 50 with 32 majors in 16 games, also averaging 6.6 marks. His scoring tally included a high of six goals against West Adelaide in Round 7. Fawcett duly received his spot in the state side, where he played a couple of matches, averaging a goal from 6.5 disposals and three marks.

He certainly has the capacity to get a hold of opponents aerially and on the lead, but making them pay on the scoreboard can prove hit or miss. His goal kicking numbers are strong, though could have been even more eye-catching with sharper conversion. At his best, Fawcett can go big and it's a matter of doing so more consistently. As it stands, he looms as a potential rookie candidate.

Welcome to Tigerland, Liam Fawcett

Richmond has used its second selection (No. 43 overall) in the 2023 AFL Draft to recruit Central District key forward Liam Fawcett.

Recruited from: Central District
Position: Key forward
DOB: 22/04/2005
Height: 197cm

What the Richmond recruiters say about Fawcett...

"Liam is the product of the Central District Football Club in South Australia and played his junior football with Golden Grove Junior Football Club and Pooraka Football Club.

"He's a 197cm key forward who had a consistent season for Central District, avergaing 15 possessions, seven marks (two contested), two goals and a score assist per game.

"Relatively new to the talent pathway, Liam did a fantastic job to represent South Australia in the U18 National Championships, where he showed versatility to play at both ends of the ground.

"Liam is a hard-worker with terrific aerobic capacity and we believe he has a lot of growth in his game once he gets into a full-time training environment.

"On behalf of the Richmond Football Club, we would like to welcome Liam and his family to Tigerland."

Gunna go against the vibe here despite knowing nothing about him.. We took a  genuine key fwd something we actually need.  he looks to have some good attributes.
Performed well at state level and  stats look good. he is a good size 197cm . Found plenty of ball took marks kicked goals and has upside being relatively new to elite football.

With a pick around this range what is not to like.

Strong marking tall forward who is mobile and a reliable set shot for goal in clutch moments. Averaged 15.4 disposals and 6.6 marks in 16 games for Central District at under 18 level this year and booted 32 goals, including one with the last kick to win a final. Also represented South Australia in two games at the National Championships and booted two goals against the Allies. Tested soundly at the state Draft Combine with his 3.08 seconds for the 20m sprint and 6:38 for the 2km time trial both strong performances for a key forward.

Other reports seem to indicate he isn't and that conversion is one of his main weaknesses..... :huh

Happy with this pick and again if he puts on some size he could be playable in his first 1-2 years.

Hope he's not a dud.
