A combination of free agency compensation, father-son selections and academy picks will cause the first night of the draft to balloon out for consecutive seasons.

Agree, however we may be lucky in that with so many high draft picks, is our Pick 1 struggles could be papered over the fact other picks shine.

You just don't want to pick a kid who has an interrupted pre season. Has the pressure of playing round 1 and being behind the 8 ball.

Where as you can pick a Smith or FOS and get an excellent player who may not become best player in comp but is a locked in at worst mild successful pick 1.

I think Lalor becomes the best player in draft, weirdly I think he has a better chance of that at pick 6 than at Pick 1 and with all the media rubbish that comes with it.

So we’ll have:
1, 6, 10, 11, 14, 20, 23, 24, 51, 61, 70, 76

Or thereabouts atleast depending on whether we throw any of the late picks (51-76) back to Gold Coast in the Rioli trade and whether we blink and accept 18 instead of 11 for Bolton.

In any case it looks like we’ll have 6 top20 picks. I’d be looking to trade every pick after that into 2025 picks. Surely 6 National Draft Picks would be the limit to leave enough for pre season and rookie drafts, SSP selections and mid season draft pickups.

Id still value pick 23 and 24 especially as they are early round 2 which is on 2nd night of drafting and can pick up absolute steals over night who were over looked.
