Player Role Reinvention Ideas
« on: May 27, 2024, 01:40:49 PM »
Plenty of players have changed roles successfully. With a pretty shot list here some ideas I think are worth exploring whilst we have honorable losses.

Kosi = Key Back - I don't think he's made for a forward, isn't big or quick enough. Just average. I think with some development he could be a decent backman. A bit like what David Asbury turned into.

Cumberland = Running Half Back - Hear me out. Noah buckles in front of goal too much. But a Nick Blakey type could suit. Tuck the footy under his arms run and kick long on his racking left foot. Being behind the ball gives him extra time to make better decisions and has a piercing left shoe. I think there is potential as I've put a line through him as a forward anyway. Nothing to lose.

Brown = Midfield. He just seems like he'd do well. Good user, we need that in mid. Be best suited behind stoppages, exactly what Merrett did all night against us.

Any other ideas? We need to get creative and unearth a unlikely best 22 player from what we have that otherwise wouldn't be.

Kosi back + ruck relief is worth a shot IMO, although maybe not ruck relief so much until either Grimes, Gibcus or Young is fit and playing alright.

Cumberland I think should be playing high forward.

Brown, would like to try him forward. A great kick.

Balta has to play backline unfortunately but I'd love to see him on the wing.

Short, maybe also half forward flank, good kick for goal and seems to struggle in defence under pressure.

Broad maybe on a wing?

I like the idea of Kosi going to CHB with some ruck time too.  Cumbo to HB could work since he has the tools for it, my only worry is his attitude.  Well worth a try though.  At worst it might clear his head a bit, just in time to go into the forward half again with some new ideas.  Forward talent is a rare thing, but if its not working the back half can save a player from himself.  Just ask Dan Rioli ...

Brown to the midfield is really worth a go.

I know Short is having a stinker of a year - but I wouldn’t mind seeing him return to the forward line - maximise his kicking ability.

Want to see Sonsie getting more time in the middle.

Once over his injury would like to see MRJ spend more time in the middle

Personally hope Balta goes back and stays back rather then go forward. Love the idea of the wing. Don't mind a Blicavs type role too.

Kozi should have been training down back from preseason.

Kozi did play back in VFL last week when I flicked it on. But that may of been after young was out?!

I'd try KMac forward a bit. He's a better kick for goal than his field kicking suggests. A bit of size to him also.

Not that I think he'll be a great forward as such, nor is he the future, but we have precious few healthy players to pick from.

Langford at the Dons has been a revelation moving forward and is a similar size to KMac, and IMO had a relatively modest career until last year.
