I've got to say our first half is definitely how we want to play as a minimum standard. Clearly the girls have the same issues as our men's team with poor fitness.

Conti and McKenzie were solid as was Lavey and Shevlin. Hosking a live wire early. Our pressure up forward was elite in the first half.

Captain Brennan set the tone with her aggression and marking up forward too.
Miller was solid in defence.

Egan was very disappointing and the usual suspects like Kelly was absolutely awful again.

And why Seymour (one of my favourites) is wasting her life in defence is anybody's guess :banghead. Put her back in the ruck!!!

Greiser has been a useless dud since she's arrived. Drops more marks than Poppy Kelly so that should be a clear sign how terribly she is struggling.

Can't wait to see Sheerin back. We still need lots of improvement but a win is a win.
Our skills across the whole team still needs a lot of work as does our goal kicking.

Gabby is wasted in defence.

Serious question were you at the game?

I'm no Poppy King fan either but she was great today

Why is Gabby Seymour playing down back? To straighten us up. Also, Because the GWS forward line was very tall so we needed height. She was very good in her lock down role today. It is also clear the coaches have decided for reasons I can't understand they seem determined to use McCelland as the chop out on the ruck

Agree re Egan terrible game. Followed up her brain fade cost us the game moment last week with more of the same today  :banghead

I'm a huge Ellie McKenzie fan but her not taking the first option trying to take everyone on everytime was so costly at times it did my head in
No I wasn't.

Poppy Kelly cannot ruck. The stats makers are very very generous when adjudicating what determines an effective tap out. I personally think they just tick the box if it goes in the direction of the team of that ruck.  She cannot mark and cannot handpass to save her life consistently runs the wrong direction and cannot position herself properly to use her massive height advantage in down the line contests.  :help
Around the ground she is non existent. That's why I'd rather see Seymour not wasted and getting to more contests and impacting the game as she has always done so well.

However, I must admit that Kelly's kicking from a stoppage is actually pretty decent and unlike most she can lay an effective tackle.

How many dropped marks? If her and "Plugger" Grieser could actually hold a mark I wouldn't be complaining about them at every game an easy chest mark goes banging off the chest exactly like when I try to get my baby niece to catch a ball.  :help
Grieser is an absolute dud so far.

Absolutely agree with McKenzie. Her first option is probably the best one but I don't mind her trying to take it on and sometimes it comes off and she looks unstoppable when she does.
The club that keeps giving.

Poppy is the least of our problems.  The fact our players are slow and unfit apart from Conti and Sheerin are the real problem.  I don't see any improvement in any of our squad.  When the stuff is Sheehan going to be held accountable!

I dont, I want Ellie taking the game on at every opportunity.

In fact if I was coach I would implement a team rule saying that if you are not Ellie, Conti or Brennan, if you have the ball you must give it to one of those three.

The vast majority of our squad cannot kick the ball past 25 metres let alone getting it near the target

Agree another solid game from Poppy, 2.2/10 this week

Unfortunately I still have no interest in AFLW.

Could happily watch Conti run around but I have minimal interest in a game that sees 9 goals. Worse than soccer, watching all that football with nothing happening.

Glad they had a win though.

You can walk down to the local park & see better games than this over-hyped tripe.... :shh

Million percent

Was having a beer with an assistant coach of the Bulldogs, back when they were a good side

He made the comment that the best players in that side wouldn’t get a senior game at St Albans

Interesting Damo, 2 of those players are now at Richmond and one of them is the best captain in the comp and the other player is the best player in the comp. Reckon Mon Conti would get a game at St Albans

Normally I'd agree with you Chuck but when you have a teammate free 30 metres down the line and you're an elite kick you don't try and take on not 2 but 3 of the opposition and turn into trouble gifting the opposition a free and soft goal. You hit that teammate 30 metres down the line

She wouldn’t have as an 18yo, so that is irrelevant
So stand by the comment 100% and trust the person who was a senior assistant at the Bulldogs

My error was saying St Albans .. the club was Deer Park

You can now guess the coach - who also played 44 games of AFL football

So yeah , his knowledge of the game will do me

Do you reckon if they increased a goal to 12 points and a behind to 4 points it would help?

No.

Unfortunately I just find most female professional sports to be underwhelming.

I think the reason for this is that I appreciate male sport when I see feats of athleticism, strength and skill that are truly beyond me. Women can be great at sport but for example I don't feel impressed seeing 30-40m kicks for goal, because I could probably have a go myself. At the AFL level you'll see blokes kick goals from 50-60+ and you know that's beyond the average man. That's just an example.

Despite that there are sports that I enjoy watching women play as much or more than men - netball, tennis, random things like table tennis, badminton, volleyball etc.

I just think for the sports that I truly like as sport codes I always find the men more impressive.

There are several examples of professional women playing average men and being demolished if you have a quick google. Serena Williams played the #200 ranked bloke once and got pantsed. There's also footage of a professional lady's soccer team playing a group of men in their 50-60's and getting pumped etc.

So yeah, that's it for me, as a spectator who enjoys the spectacle of the game!

Have no idea who the coach is but am I correct in assuming he was an assistant in the men's program?

Each to their own Andyy but what about womens cricket? you find that underwhelming too? Absolutely love watching the Aussie girls on the cricket filed. Play the game the right way and are super talented.

Finally I don't want to come across as potting posters as it's not my intent but I truly feel for any daughters of some our posters who love footy, want to play it and aspire to be AFLW players, what sort of message, support does it send denigrating and finding fault with it at every opportunity :huh3 :huh3 :help

Two of my girls play and I don't discourage them but I don't feel the need to pretend they're just as good as the men or their brothers or that AFLW is awesome to watch and just as entertaining as the AFL proper....they wouldn't give a shyte anyway.......  :shh

I dont' think anyone has ever said that the AFLW is as good as the AFL. But I don't know why people have to continually compare it to the men's game and belittle it and the players at the same time

They are fundamentally different for very obvious reasons.

Though I stand by my comment about Mon Conti, she is the exception, is awesome to watch and better skilled than a couple of our RFC blokes  :shh
