The $1m shock: Why alarming Tiger salaries make AFL happy

Despite having the worst season in club history, Richmond populates the top money earners in the game. But that is all part of how the AFL wants the cycle of footy to work.

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-rich-100-richmonds-tom-lynch-dustin-martin-and-shai-bolton-all-in-the-top10/news-story/c8272fdb065cb7e5f8d4a775508fd7d3

This article is behind paywall but apparently, we're about to open up $2.2-2.4 million in our salary cap from just moving on Martin & Bolton. Then add in the money from Baker, Graham and Dan Rioli also moving on and we're potentially going to have a large chunk of our salary cap freed up.

Add that in 12 months Lynch will likely be off wage bill unless he can play 16+ games.

Either way if he gets another contract it will be at considerably less.

Exactly how is that a shock?
The knowns are that those players are going. Does one plus one not add up to significant salary cap space?  ::)
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

You heard wrong

15.78ml the salary cap in 2024

415k average, just using a list of 38

Then have to factor in rookies etc , which brings it down even further

It isn’t an argument

The size of the salary cap is factual

15.78ml is the total amount

Therefore you heard wrong on this matter
